6. Knock Me on My Face (5:30)
The Self
Oh Lord, I need your help to renew my mind
What I should do, I don't and what I shouldn't, I do I find
Bring me to my senses even if it means a slap
Rouse me from this complacent life and this spiritual nap
Sometimes I wander off
My discernment dulled to your direction
Sometimes I defy you
But you never let down your loving protection
This is when I need your touch though sometimes not so soft
My caring Father, you won't let me spoil by sparing the rod
And though I may not realize it at times
Your discipline builds me into a stronger warrior
More refined
The process of renewing and maturing
Does not always feel good
I need your help to guide me to do the things that I should
Tear away the sinful flesh and reveal the new man
My life is yours, I submit my will, do all that you can
Help me to discover the things within myself
That keep me from letting you give all of your help
Do what it takes to put me in my place
Knock me on my face, this is what I pray
Bring me to my knees, so that I can see
I'm not where I should be and bow to the King
Do what it takes to put the Church in it's place
Knock it on its face this is what I pray
Bring the Church to its knees so that it can see
It' not where it should be and bow to the King
The Church
God I come to on behalf of the Church, your bride
We are far from spotless, so much zeal for you has died
Arguing about religious things that won't matter
When we're dead
Divisions among us keep you from being the head
So with all due respect to the members of the Church
I pray you'll kick us in the butt
We've been stuck in a rut so long, so many minds have shut
Shut to what the spirit can do in new and exciting ways
Then there are those whose minds are so open
They seem to have lost their brains
False winds of doctrine blowing this way and that
Changing spiritual beliefs at the drop of a hat
Then there are those who think that church is a fashion show
Sinking in debt to look rich with designer jewelry and clothes
Shake us up, remind us of our purpose on earth
Redirect our goals to putting your will first
Your gospel should transcend denominational lines
Break the walls that separate us
And cause your power to be confined
Do what it takes to put the Church in its place
Knock it on its face! This is what I pray
Bring the Church to its knees so that it can see
It's not where it should be, and bow to the King
Do what it takes to put the world in its place
Knock it on its face! This is what I pray
Bring the world to its face so that it can see
It's not where it should be, and bow to the King
The World
God I come to you on behalf of my nation and the world
We are at the point where good is bad
As the humanist flag unfurls
Man has rejected you
We look to ourselves for the answers today
We need to see our folly
We need this foolish pride stripped away
We've been so stupid, hardened our hearts
Our consciences have been marred
You've made our foolishness clear
But we still don't see we need to be hit hard
There are wall built up that must be broken down
I see maliciousness and greed when I look around
Things that blind the mind and hide the heart
From where it is
We busy ourselves with work
Then guzzle tons of entertainment
We stand apart from you and face the other direction
Too busy with our daily lives, seeking our own satisfaction
Ignoring the God that gave us this life
What sick irony this is
Our time is coming, the day of wrath
The final righteous judgment
And that is why I pray that you'll show us where we are
Hit us so we'll see straight before we stray too far
Do what it takes to put the devil in his place
Knock him on his face!! This is what I pray
Bring the devil to his knees so that he can see
He's not where he should be, and bow to the King
But most importantly let it always be
Remembered that it starts with me!!!!
