슬럿지와 둠메탈, 포스트록을 깔끔하게 조화시켜 무겁고 서사적 사운드를 만들어내는 스웨덴 듀오가 포스트의 산실인 Pelagic Records에서 내는 첫 작품. 이미 해외 유수의 매거진에서 높은 평가를 받고 있는데, 드럼과 베이스, 파이프오르간 세션을 동원하여 만든 이 앨범은 밴드의 이전 작품에 비해 Drone Metal이 떠오를 정도로 각도를 조금 틀어서 시작한다. 물론 Earthquaker Divices에서 시그니쳐 페달까지 발매된 Sunn O))의 사운드에 비할 바는 아니지만, 그래도 전작들보다 더욱 호흡이 길고 명상적이다. 특히 앨범 초반부는 피아노와 신디사이저를 활용하여 금방이라도 깨져버릴 듯한 보컬의 우울감을 확실하게 받쳐준다. Heathen의 중반까지 이어지던 명상적인 분위기는 장중한 파이프오르간으로 분위기를 일신하며, 곧이어 광폭한 드럼과 함께 포스트메탈에 어울리는 디스토션 리프로 마무리짓는다. 18분에 달하는 대곡인 The Pyre가 이를 이어받아 3분 가량의 피아노 발라드를 거쳐 긴 호흡의 코드진행으로 청자를 10분 넘게 압박한다. 이 부분에서 포스트록이나 슈게이징을 즐기는 청자라면 충분히 빠져들 법 한데, 싱글로 발매되고 강렬한 뮤비까지 뽑힌 The Burning Wall에 다다르면 명상적인 요소는 줄어들고 본격적으로 밴드가 전달하고 싶어 ...
