스웨덴 출신의 Power/Progressive Metal 밴드 Evergrey의 데뷔 앨범. 여러모로 비범한 데뷔 앨범이라 할 수 있겠다. 갓 데뷔한 신인답지 않은 화려한 연주와 일관된 컨셉은 이 밴드가 얼마나 데뷔 전에 얼마나 많은 준비를 착실히 해왔는지 가늠할 수 있게 해준다. The Dark Discovery에서 이 밴드의 미숙한 모습은 거의 찾아 볼 수 없다. 마치 씬 내에서 여러 해 동안 활동한 노련한 밴드 같이 이들은 완숙한 경지에 이미 접어 들어 있었다해도 과언이 아니다. 밴드가 The Dark Discovery로 데뷔할 당시 과부하에 걸려 있던 파워 메탈씬이 활로를 모색하던 과정에서 프로그레시브 메탈의 도입붐이 막 일어나던 시기였는데, Evergrey는 이 흐름을 성공적으로 탔다고 봐야 할 것이다. 이들은 뛰어난 역량으로 멜로딕한 파워 메탈에 복잡한 구성의 프로그레시브 메탈을 수완좋게 결합시켰다. The Dark Discovery는 Evergrey가 감행한 모험의 결과물이다. 화려한 파워 메탈 멜로디와 프로그레시브 메탈의 테크니컬하면서도 복잡다단한 구성은 본작에서 멋진 앙상블을 이루고 있다. 이런 장르의 작품을 좋아하는 사람이라면 The Dark Discovery는 그 기대를 결코 배신하지 않을 것이다.

great first album by Evergrey. From my point of view, I would have been more satisfied if the band's music moved more prominently in this style from the beginning of their career.

Phenomenal dark Prog Metal, with Gothic and Power Metal undertones. Full of passion, energy, and melancholy. Nearly perfect debut, not sure why it receives middling reviews!

북유럽 프로그레시브 메탈의 거장 에버그레이의 데뷔작. 약간은 조악한 믹싱 빼면 설익은 것이 없는 구성과 연주력, 예테보리 사운드에 트윈기타 유니즌으로 밀어붙이는 막강한 사운드, 이에 걸맞는 호소력 있는 보컬, 고딕적인 콰이어와 스트링. 이들은 이 때부터 자신들의 분명한 스타일을 나타내고 있습니다.
