1988년도에 결성한 브라질의 블랙메탈 밴드라 하면 사실 컬트가 아니라 부르기 어렵다. 그 이전에 존재했던 sarcofago와 sepultura(morbid visions)가 코구멜로(cogumelo)에서 내어놓은 거대한 똥덩어리는 이렇든 저렇든 간에 초기 블랙메탈 씬에 거대한 영향을 끼친 것은 사실이다. (물론 '영향력'이라는 측면에서는 나름 오래된 똥임에도 Genocidio는 제외한다.)
그러니 그 이후의 밴드들인 이 Impurity나 위대한 이름이 되어가는 Mystifier에 있어서 브라질의 초기 거장들의 사운드가 그렇게만큼이나 녹아들어가 있는가 하는 것은 별개의 문제다. 어떤 미싱링크를 따지 않더라도, 예를 들어 96년도의 핫뮤직의 블랙메탈 특집기사에서 써진대로 "베놈에서 바쏘리로 넘어가는 블랙메탈과 메이헴의 블랙메탈은 전혀 다른 사운드"인 것이다.
앞서 말한 2세대 후대 주자들 중 Mystifier가 (그 조악한 초창기의 데모는 차치하고)매우 두터운 텍스쳐와 오브제로서의 분명한 질감을 갖춘 환상적인 완성도의 블랙메탈을 선보인다면 이 Impurity는 많은 마니아들이 말하는 '본질'로서의 사운드를 담고 있다.

폴린엔젤에서 구매한 앨범인데요. 이 밴드의 전앨범은 모르겠습니다만. 대단히 만족스런 로우한 블랙을 들려주네요. 요즘 즐겨 듣습니다.

Impurity의 음악은 Rage and Horrors에서만 듣고 본 작으로 두번째 접하는데, 그 스플릿 앨범과 분위기가 사뭇 다른 것 같다. 스플릿보다 더 인상깊게 들었고, 전설로 불리는 이들의 디스코그래피를 제대로 들어보고 싶다는 순기능이 발동했다. 이 앨범의 국내 제작 발매는 신의 한 수!
