네이팜 소속 파워 메탈 밴드들이 올해 라이브 앨범들을 연이어 발매하고 있습니다. 파워울프(Powerwolf)는 베스트 앨범 Best of the Blessed를 발매하며 2CD에 라이브 풀 버전을 끼워 넣었고, 카멜롯(Kamelot)과 해머폴(Hammerfall)이 아주 수준 높은 블루레이를 발매해 팬들을 즐겁게 해 줬으며, 지난 10월 30일 제가 정말 좋아하는 밴드 비전스 오브 아틀란티스가 마침내 첫 영상매체를 내줬습니다.
이 밴드에 대해서는 참 할 말이 많습니다. 아무래도 이 쪽 분야에서는 절대적인 영향력을 자랑하는 나이트위시나 에피카에 비하면 그 커리어나 인기가 많이 빈약하고, 특히 초기작은 조악한 녹음상태와 최악의 보컬로 메탈 팬들에게 좋은 평을 받지 못했습니다. 한국까지 와서 공연을 하고 그 여파로 1집이 라이선스되었지만, 혹평을 받게 되고 그 이후 작품들은 라이선스가 되지 않았죠. 신보가 나올 때마다 꾸준히 라이선스되는 카멜롯과 비교가 되는 것은 사실입니다.
이 밴드는 드러머 토마스 캐셔(Thomas Caser)가 유일한 원년 멤버이고, 숱한 멤버 교체를 겪어 왔습니다. 1집 Eternal Endless Infinity는 앞서 말했다시피 좋지 못한 작품이고, 2집 Cast Away부터 나름대로 괜찮은 사운드를 들려주기 시작했습니다. 특히 2016년 EP 앨범 Old Routes - New Waters에서 현 ... See More
