Additional notes
In 1993, Jonne Järvelä started the project that would later evolve into Shaman. Under the moniker Shamaani Duo, an ambient/folk project, a first CD was released in 1996 titled "Hunka lunka". The project had both male and female vocals and some of the melodies where later reused on Shaman songs. Some Shaman tracks appeared on the Shamaani Duo-album in an early form.
The band changed their name to Korpiklaani in 2003 as Järvelä modified the band to a "more widely accepted sound". They also change their name to avoid confusion with Shaman. And to quote Jonne Järvela from an interview: "We had to change our name from Shaman to Korpiklaani when we were making the album "Spirit of the Forest". That album was almost recorded when we changed the band's name because Andre Matos from Angra likewise founded the Prog band Shaman at that time. Even though they were just starting it was a big project and many people associated them with that name so we decided to change our name instead."
Shaman had a one year break between summer 2000 and summer 2001. During the break, Jonne appeared on Finntroll's "Jaktens tid", where he contributed "yoik" vocals. He also played acoustic guitar and shaman drum for Finntroll on their gigs in Finland and Germany.
