한때 Nightwish에 깊이 빠져있던 시절이 있었다. 과거보다도 지금이 더 팬베이스가 넓어졌지만, 그래도 나한테 Nightwish 최고의 시절은 Tarja Turunen 재적시절이다. Tarja Turunen이 밴드에서 해고되었다고 했을 때 얼마나 아쉬웠는지 모른다. 그녀가 Nightwish를 나온 뒤에도 종종 이 밴드의 음악을 자주 들었지만, 그 이후로 Nightwish에 대한 열정은 많이 식어갔다. Amberian Dawn은 2008년 데뷔 당시에는 모르고 있던 밴드였다. 이들은 Nightwish에 대한 대체제로 나름 촉망받았던 밴드 중 하나로 알려져 있다. 심포닉한 메탈 사운드에 여성 소프라노의 등장이 한때 많은 주목을 받았던 시절도 있었다. Amberian Dawn은 이러한 조합에 대한 내 개인적인 관심도 많이 옅어진 이후에야 접했던 밴드인데, 만약 지금으로부터 15년쯤에 Amberian Dawn을 접했더라면 꽤나 좋아했을 것 같은 밴드다. 이들의 데뷔앨범 River of Tuoni에서는 심포닉한 선율이 차지하는 비중이 제법 높은 편이지만, 메탈릭한 사운드에 좀더 무게를 두고 있다는 점에서 차별화가 이루어져 있다. 심포닉 메탈이라고 불리지만, 시원시원한 파워풀한 사운드와 소프라노의 조합이 초기 Nightwish를 연상시켰다. 하지만 작곡력에서 원조를 따라잡기는 어려웠던 것 같다. 여타의 Nightwish 카피 밴드들에 비한다면 ...
