Helstar는 비주류인 아메리칸 파워 메탈을 대표하는 밴드 중 하나였다. 80년대 중반부터 뛰어난 작품들을 양산하다가, 마침내 80년대의 마지막 해에 기념비적인 앨범인 Nosferatu를 발표하였다. 하지만, 이 앨범을 마지막으로 밴드는 공중분해되다시피 하였다. 이들은 6년여의 휴지기를 가진 끝에 마침내 활동을 재개하게 되었다. 이들이 휴식기를 가진 시기에는 이미 기존의 헤비 메탈의 인기는 영미권에서는 거의 사그러든 상태였고, 원체 마이너한 장르였던 아메리칸 파워 메탈은 흔적을 찾기도 힘든 상황이었다. 기존의 수작들을 발표했던 최적의 라인업도 보컬인 James Rivera만 남은 상태에서 Helstar가 선방하기란 쉽지 않은 상황이었을 것이다. 이들의 95년작 Multiples of Black을 들어본 결과 예상대로였다. Nosferatu의 영광을 재현하는데는 명백하게 실패했다. Larry Barragan의 빈자리는 메울 수 없는 구멍이었던 듯하다. Multiples of Black에서는 거친 리프가 몰아치는 가운데, 섬세하고 조밀하게 짚어나가는 멜로디는 거의 실종되었고, 장르 자체도 아메리칸 파워 메탈에서 어정쩡하게 프로그레시브 메탈을 시도하는 듯한 스탠스를 취하고 있다. 원 멤버가 한 명밖에 안남은 상태라 Multiples of Black에 그리 큰 기대를 갖지는 않았지만, Nosferatu라는 역작 ... po hudobnej stránke je album "Multiples of Black" celkom podarené, pričom kombinuje US Heavy/Power Metal, ale jeho veľkou slabinou je nepodarený zvuk (hlavne zvuk bicích a gitár).

Not as great as the last few releases, but I find this one underrated. Still competent and technical Speed Metal.
