This album will likely appeal to die-hard devotees who crave a direct extension of Incantation’s early style. Still, for anyone seeking fresh ideas or a refined execution of the band’s venerable formula, the album disappoints. Lacking both memorable songwriting and crisp production, it never truly ascends to the cavernous dread that has distinguished some of Incantation’s past releases. Instead, it ends up sounding like the mere echo of a once-formidable force.

The guitar playing really steals the show on this good album. All the guitarwork adds a lot of emotional depth and a wonderful sense of danger. Nice compositions and tight playing as well. The vocals lack variety though; I keep wishing he would go higher or lower at least once in a while. His tone of voice does add some atmosphere though (not just mindless cookie monster). Not perfect, but I enjoyed my introduction to these O.G.s of death metal.
