사실 객관적인 음악성과 별개로 2017년작인 ...Of the Dark Light는 드러머와 기타리스트의 교체로 인해 기존 서포케이션의 음악을 좋아하는 팬들에게는 약간 이질적이었습니다. 2013년작인 Pinnacle of Bedlam이 소수의 근본주의자를 제외한 올드팬들에게도 제법 만족스러운 앨범이었다는 사실을 감안하면 솔직히 밴드의 변화가 그리 마뜩찮은 팬들도 제법 있었을거라 생각합니다.
거기에 비록 밴드와 매우 원만하게 갈라졌다고는 하나, 서포케이션의 상징이나 다름없던 보컬 프랭크 뮬렌이 탈퇴했다는 사실은 제게 더 이상 예전의 서포케이션은 존재하지 않는다는 생각에 쐐기를 박은 것이나 마찬가지였습니다.
이후 서포케이션은 잠시 라이브 보컬로 Kevin Muller가 들어왔다가 다시 Ricky Myers가 정식 멤버로 합류하는 과정을 거치며 새로운 음악에 대한 소식 없이 몇 년 동안 라이브를 돌았고, 이제 보컬도 교체했으니 해체할 때까지 추억팔이나 하며 지낼 것 같던 시점에 이들은 갑작스럽게 싱글을 내고 신보를 발매한다 발표했습니다.
6년만의 신보 발표로 기쁜 마음이 드는 것과 동시에, 과연 이 라인업으로 내는 서포케이션 앨범이 기존의 클래식들과 얼마나 괴리감이 들 것이냐는 불안감이 머릿속을 떠나지 않았습니다.

zatiaľ posledné album od Suffocation - "Hymns from the Apocrypha" ponúka Technický Brutal Death Metal, pričom hudba (gitary a bicie) je celkom dobrá, ale ten growling (rev) mi vôbec nesedí a je aj príliš v popredí.

질식...호흡곤란...Suffocation. 예전에 지구레코드에서 Metallism이라는 컴필레이션 음반이 나왔었는데, 거기에 Suffocation에 대한 문구가 저거였습니다.

This is not really the kind of metal I want to listen to, but it's totally apparent that these veterans are still inspired to create new music in their pummeling style. You can hear it on the recording. A very impressive album.

The new singer has a really broad range of vocals. The riffs are heavy and syncopated as usual. Good material.
