Riot는 1975년, 뉴욕에서 기타리스트 Mark Reale에 의해 결성되었다. 이들은 오늘날 주로 Heavy Metal 밴드로 분류되는경향이 있는데 데뷔 초기에만 해도 Riot는 Hard Rock 밴드로 활동을 시작하였다. 이들은 Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith 같은 Blues에 기반한 하드록보다는 당시에 유행을 타기 시작한 멜로디가 풍부한 하드록을 연주했다. 굳이 이들의 초기는 굳이 분류를 하자면 인기를 막 얻어가던 Journey나 데뷔 앨범 한 장으로 히트 메이커로서의 가능성을 타진한 Foreigner와 비슷하다고 볼 수 있다. 그러나 Riot는 이러한 밴드들에 비해 좀더 입자가 굵고 거친 하드록을 주종목으로 했다. 이러한 면모는 이들의 데뷔 앨범 Rock City에서 충분히 살펴볼 수 있다. 거친 하드록 연주에 풍성한 멜로디를 얹은 이들의 데뷔 앨범은 그런대로 제법 괜찮은 수준의 앨범이다. 특히 이 앨범에서 돋보이는 것은 밴드의 설립자인 Mark Reale의 기타 연주이다. 그는 실제로 록음악 평단으로부터 실력에 비해 저평가 받는 기타리스트로 알려져 있는데, 본작을 들어보면 Mark Reale가 과연 저평가 받고 있다는 사실을 쉽게 인식할 수 있다. 전곡에서 그의 뛰어난 연주를 엿볼 수 있지만, 그중에서 그의 실력이 가장 부각되는 곡은 밴드의 초기 명곡으로 자주 언급되는 Warrior다. 이곡에서 보 ... Guy Speranza가 있는초기 Riot은 헤비메탈이라고 하기에는 조금 말랑말랑하다. 하지만 이 앨범에는 Riot의 노래중 빼놓을수 없는 Warrior의 있는 것으로도 가치가 있다!
