Sentenced는 1989년 기타리스트 Miika Tenkula와 Sami Lopakka, 드러머 Vesa Ranta를 중심으로 결성되었다. 핀란드의 국민밴드라 할만한 엄청난 인지도를 지니고 있는 이들 음악여정의 시작은 90년의 데모앨범 When Death Joins Us... 에서부터 출발한다. 프랑스의 작은 레이블에서 데뷔작 Shadows Of The Past을 내놓았으며 Spinefarm Record로 레이블을 옮겨 두 번째 앨범 North From Here을 공개한다. Century Media에 입성하여 94년에 발표한 세 번째 정규작 Amok로 명실상부한 최고의 인기그룹 대열에 합류하였으며 Down, Frozen, Crimson등 일련의 앨범들을 내놓으며 명성을 이어간다. 일곱 번째 정규작에 해당하는 본작 The Cold White Light 역시 많은 찬사를 받아내었는데, 앨범을 거듭할수록 보다 멜로딕해지고 템포가 느려지는 모습이다. 기존 멜로딕 데쓰의 저돌성보다는 고딕의 암울함이 전반적으로 지배한다.

This is music by serious pros who have a real budget and high production values. However, the corniness of the sound & lyrics had me uncomfortable. I thought I would hear Paradise Lost and Theatre of Tragedy type stuff. Instead it was often grandmacore. I guess in Europe, there is actually a market for radio-friendly grandma-centric metal.

적당히 헤비하고 멜로디 메이킹이 예슬이다. 보컬도 중저음이 이렇게 매력적일줄이야.. 뺄 곡이 전혀 보이질 않는다. 고딕메탈과 대중적인 노선의 접점에서 최상의 퍼포먼스!! cross my heart and hope to die, brief is the light, blood & tears, no one there 를 좋게 들었다.
