내게 Sirenia는 Tristania로부터 독립 이후 적당히 좋은 앨범들을 만들던 Symphonic 밴드 정도의 이미지였다.
이 앨범을 처음 듣기 전까진 말이다.
앨범에 깊게 흐르는 심해의 정서는 정말 진심 미쳤다.
리핑을 하며 첫번째 트랙을 들었을 땐, 정말 물고기가 노래를 부른다고 선원들이 바다에 뛰어들었다던가 하는 개똥같은 세이렌의 전설에 강력한 설득력이 보태어지는 것만 같았다.
Ailyn이 처음 Sirenia에 들어왔던 13층에서의 코 풀어주고 싶던 목소리가 이렇게 에픽하게 들리다니!
Ailyn의 보컬링이 점점 향상되어 왔고, Sirenia에도 점점 더 융화되어간단 생각은 했었지만 일단 인트로부터가 어마어마한 충격이었다.
하지만 이어지는 정신나간 킬링트랙 #2은 와 진짜..
악천후에 끼익끼익거리는 구식 범선을 타고 시커먼 바다를 항해하는 지저분한 선원들과 그들을 유혹해 심해로 끌고 내려가려는 바다 마녀의 이야기가 펼쳐지는 것만 같았다.
선 깊은 리프와 파도처럼 귓전을 두들기는 드럼, 천둥같은 콰이어.
(물론 베이스는 암초에 걸려 침몰한 모양이지만, 원래 이 바닥에서 베이스가 실종된 곡이 한둘이 아니니깐.)
