2. The Phantom Visages (11:25)
I bathe here in the vestige of hope
Thou, the phantom visages of a common grave,
Invite to me the seething night waters
Invite to me the seething night waters
Behold this creek of ebon ice and lingering regret
A myriad of undulating ghosts released from frozen cracks
Their choir, a cicadan hymn, pervades the dreary fog
Forgotten relics lie within a forlorn tomb
Carnal are the jaws and frigid is the womb
And soon into the graveyard’s maw the lustrous glow shall fade
Their echoing laments no longer stain the past
Their fleeting memories are borne to midnight rot
My lifeless frame upon the black tombstone is cast
Fallen, writhing, and decaying in the riverbed
Cloven are the hooves, skeletal and dead
The pines are my stoic brethren, the hemlocks stand guard over me
I am the eclipse of the moonlit scars and the silhouettes of the of trees
Chained to the sanguine riverbed as red cicadas envelop me
When this grove shall decay, and only withering roots remain
I, the seething night, do condemn the pain
The pallid moon adorned in thorns belies the rain
I, the seething night, do bestow repose
Unto the valiant wolves that have endured the cold

When this grove shall decay, and only withering roots remain
