Unholy Lists
(1)Additional notes
Unholy was born in 1990, from the ashes of Holy Hell. They signed to Lethal Records after the release of their Trip to Depressive Autumn demo. Following their 1993 debut album, From the Shadows, Unholy had serious quarrels with their label at the time, and decided to part ways. They were then quickly picked up by Avantgarde Music, who released their second album, The Second Ring of Power. The full-length was experimental and did not receive a wide positive feedback, so a planned tour was cancelled, and in December 1994 the band was put on hold while members pursued other musical projects such as Jarkko Toivonen's Temple of Tiermes.
Unholy reunited in the Summer of 1996 as a three-piece without Jarkko Toivonen, and they got again in touch with their last label, Avantgarde Music, who had published their third album, Rapture at the beginning of 1998. Veera Muhli joined the trio and Unholy recorded their fourth album, Gracefallen, again released by Avantgarde Music in 1999; in the meantime, the rhythm guitarist Jade Vanhala joined the band in order to play live shows. Although this album was, according to the band, "technically and musically the most solid Unholy" one, it sold the worst of the band's entire career and so the band started searching for a bigger label, but disbanded in 2002.
After many years, the Finnish indie label Rusty Crowbar Records showed interest in releasing Unholy demos in vinyl format, so in March 2011 the band signed a deal with the label; in the meantime, Avantgarde Music had sold their rights to Peaceville Records which wanted to re-release the Unholy full-lengths, in which the band included bonus materials. In 2012, Jarkko Toivonen re-entered the band after 17 years and Unholy planned live shows and, in August of the same year, the band ended their comeback tour and split-up again for good.
