The faithful cradle their belief like a fragile infant. So terrified it may cease breathing and slowly grow cold in their desperate embrace.
Their uncertainty needs the reinforcement of others to quell the host of nagging doubts. So they rush to spread their cloying “Good News” like a faulty cell replicating into a vast malignant tumour. How easy to believe in absurdities under the cosy blanket of shared delusion. Ecumenical folie à plusieurs.
Evangelism treads the path of least resistance, corrupting the vulnerable, portending colonisation. Primitive societies are subverted and crushed. Folk religions labelled blasphemous. The price for aid, supplication and conversion.
Where schools and hospitals are needed, a church takes precedence. Healthcare abandoned in favour of letting people die according to God’s will, his mysterious ways. The destitute taught to relish their poverty rather than hope for improvement. Piety in privation.
Dying heathens are baptised surreptitiously and told their pain is a gift from God, to be cherished. Diseases are spread rather than stopped by missionaries ignorant of basic sterilisation.
Gifts of money flood in, assuaging the guilt of the wealthy. Donations squandered on propaganda over alleviating hardship. The thin veil of charity conceals a heartless sermonizing machine, deftly processing converts. Why save lives when you can save souls?
Profuse translations of irrelevant scripture. Dogma sacrosanct in the face of social change unless revisions suit vested interests.
Regressive views of reactionaries endorsed by the church in a cynical effort to appease the influential.
