메탈코어는 섣불리 평가하기가 어려운 장르입니다. 한편으로는 장르 전체에 대하여 부정적인 시각도 많은 반면(특히나 메탈 엘리트주의자로부터...), 객관적으로 봤을 때 인기가 많거나, 실력이 좋은 뮤지션들도 있기 때문입니다. 다만, 저는 배경이나 주변 시선과 상관없이 객관적으로 음악으로만 평가하고 싶습니다.
본 앨범은 클린 보컬 멜로디 라인이 가볍게 느껴지는 것과, 브렉다운의 약간의 과용으로 인한 지루함을 빼면, 편하게, 부담 없이 들을 수 있는 수작이라고 말씀드리고 싶습니다.
가장 칭찬하고 싶은 부분, 특히나 장르에 상관없이 다른 밴드들도 본받아야 하는 부분은 프로덕션입니다. Joey Sturgis라는 유명한 이력의 프로듀서가 참여했으니 당연한 부분이기는 한데, 각 악기, 보컬은 클린, 스크리밍 둘 다, 그리고 심지어 샘플도 음계 하나하나가 선명하게 들리고, 뭉개진 듯하게 들리거나 음질로 피로감이 생기는 부분이 전혀 없습니다. 이 부분은 팜뮤팅에 최적화된 묵직한 기타 톤과 Danny의 그로울링의 박력을 살리는데 특히나 두각을 드러냅니다. 심지어, 이 리뷰 작성일 기준으로 16년이 지났는데도 프로덕션 부분은 강력하다고 말할 수 있습니다.

This album is very juvenile, simplistic and the least impressive in their discography.
That being said, this album shaped an entire genre and was ripped off for years to come. The sound to this album quickly became seen as generic, but that was simply because every other warped tour era band ripped off the sound until it became played to death.
No one could do it quite like the original though. No particular song in this album stands out from their discography, however the drum work is extremely memorable to this day. Paired with the production work of Joey Sturgis, the drumming on this album is absolutely phenomenal with some of the best writing and most memorable drum fills you will ever hear.
The guitar, when compared to the drumming, seems very simplistic. That doesn't take away from it at all though, as some of the riffs are super memorable. Even this bands greatest detractors would recognize them immediately.
Although the lyrics and some of the content didn't age well, It's a solid album that will survive the test of time because of its phenomenal production. It launched their very successful career and was extremely influential, and anyone who denies it's influence is simply wrong.

Sumerian Records 소속의 밥줄이자, 트렌디한 Metalcore 씬에서 활력을 불어준 이들 나름의 명반이다. 본작을 통해 Asking Alexandria의 인기가 급상승 했는데, 주옥 같은 명곡이 여럿 실리기도 하고 수록곡도 빵빵하게 13곡이나 수록 되어 있기에 충분히 인기에 반영할만큼 완성도 또한 특별히 나무랄때가 없다. [The Irony of Your Perfection]에서 이들의 가능성을 미리 파악하고 코어씬에서도 유명한 Sumerian Records가 프로듀싱도 맛깔나게 신경써줬지 않나 싶다.
뻔할 수 있는 구조인 Riff-Breakdown-Riff-Breakdown-Bridge-Breakdown 구조에 Clean vocal과 Trance 요소를 적절하게 첨가해서 식상함을 탈피할려는 시도가 엿보인다. 무엇보다 튀는 부분은 Clean vocal line이 제법 귀에 잘 꽂히는 것과 Deathcore를 살짝 걸쳐서 빡셈을 강조한 Breakdown part 또한 애써 곡의 완급을 신경쓴 듯한 것 같기도 하다. 그리고 Sing along을 유도시킬만큼 괜찮은 Hook도 있어서 접근성 또한 좋은 것도 장점이다.

This is the crabcore album for metal heads. It doesn’t lean into its crabby brother too hard (no auto tune on the choruses, electronics relatively muted) but it keeps a unique Identity. It almost feels like a sequel to Someday Came Suddenly because they’re very similar, but with Stand Up And Scream just better in most facets. Great drum work, very early 2010s guitars, with Danny throwing in an amazing vocal performance.

The harsh vocals are good and the drumming is great. Unfortunately, the clean vocals are cringeworthy, the melodies & composition are lame, and there are rookie mistakes such as tacked-on string sections. Even the trance fails because it's not well integrated (a disappointment, because I was looking forward to it). Not good, and I don't want to listen again.
