이 앨범을 들을 때 한가지 유의할 점이 있다. 본작이 메탈 앨범이 아니라는 사실이다. 원래 Halford는 개인 밴드이긴 하지만, Winter Songs는 그 개인 밴드의 앨범들 중에서도 외전격 작품이라고 봐야하지 않을까 싶다. 앨범을 장르상 구분한다면 거의 AOR에 해당된다고 생각한다. Winter Songs는 크리스마스를 타깃으로 하여 발매된 앨범이라고도 한다. Judas Priest 활동 당시 워낙 메탈 보컬리스트로서의 위상이 높지만, 밴드 초창기만해도 좀더 다양한 장르를 섭렵해왔다. 개중에는 Rob Halford의 보이스 중에서도 쇳소리를 뺀 감미로운 트랙도 있었다. 그 시절을 연상한다면, Winter Songs에서 보이고 있는 Rob Halford가 그리 놀랍게 다가오지 않을 수 있다. 부드러운 미성을 내는 트랙으로 앨범 전체를 구성하여서 이색적이긴 하지만, 그가 제작에 참여한 모든 앨범들 중에서 가장 편안하게 들을 수 있는 작품이라고 생각된다. 메탈 갓 이미지가 워낙 강하여 Winter Songs가 이질적으로 들리기는 하지만, 편견을 버리고 듣는다면 잘 알던 뮤지션의 색다른 이 앨범을 즐겁게 감상할 수 있을 것 같다.
