Iced earth는 2001년 발표된 앨범 [Horror show] 이후 어느 정도는 답보, 혹은 방황하고 있었다고 할 수 있지 않나 싶은 생각이 든다. Matthew Barlow의 갑작스러운 탈퇴와 Tim "Ripper" Owens의 가입, [The glorious burden] 과 [Framing armageddon-Something wicked part 2] 을 발표한 Ripper의 Barlow 못지 않은 갑작스러운 탈퇴와 Barlow의 귀환으로 이어지는 이 시기의 Iced earth는 뭐랄까... [Something wicked this way comes] 에서 느꼈던 그런 묵직한 동시에 날카로운 훅이 좀 빠져 있다는 느낌이 들었다고 할 수 있지 않을까 싶다. 물론 개인적으론 Ripper와 함께 한 시절의 앨범을 무척 좋아라하지만, 그게 아무래도 중평은 아닌 것 같아서.말이다-리뷰 평점을 보시면 알겠지만, [The glorious burden] 과 [Framing armageddon-Something wicked part 2] 에는 모두 80점 중반의 점수를 주었다. 저 정도면 준 명반~명반 사이에는 걸치는 게 확실하다, 정도로 평가하는 점수다-.
그런 Iced earth가 한바탕 내흥을 겪고-내흥이라 해서 뭐 밴드 내 갈등이 두드러지게 폭발했다, 요런 느낌이라기보단... 돌아온 Barlow가 바로 뛰쳐나가 신임 보컬리스트를 데려와야 하는 상황이라면 내흥이라고도 할 수 있지 않을까. 물론 기대 이상의 뛰어난 보컬리스트를 데려왔다는 것은 확실한 점이지만 말이다. 신임 보컬리스트 Stu Bl ... See More

Album "Dystopia" introduced a new singer Stu Block for the first time in Iced Earth music. Block’s performance mostly focuses on a mid-range aggressive voice reminiscent of Barlow though he also lets out plenty of Ripper-styled screams. Album offers powerful mid-paced crunchy riffs, strong chorus, cool structure and adventurous songwriting. Album theme revolving around oppressive governments, brainwashing and all the other forms of control.

전작보다는 나아진 모습이지만 Iced earth 스타일이 질린 나에겐 평범한 앨범. 단, 1번트랙때문에 점수를 10점 더 준다. 그외에 추천트랙은 tragedy&triumph, iron will(보너스트랙).
