기다리고 기다리던 15년만의 Last Days of Humanity 정규 앨범이다. 기대했던 만큼 괴악한 사운드로 청자를 압박해버리고 이전과는 확연히 다른 보컬 톤으로 새로운 역겨움을 선사한다.
1집의 꾸준한 불쾌함, 2집의 역겹고 변태스러움, 3집의 극악무도함에 이어 처음부터 끝까지 청자를 짓누르고 압박하는 사운드로의 변화가 참 놀랍다. 이 밴드는 맨날 이펙터 떡칠하고 대충 만든다 라고 평을 받기도 하지만 적어도 나에겐 아니었다. 앨범마다의 확연한 특징이 보였고, 만들고자 하는 분위기를 청자로 하여금 온몸으로 느낄 수 있도록 만들어내는 이들이 대단하기만 하다.
고어그라인드 밴드의 경우 대부분 초기엔 누구보다 잔악무도하게 나온다. 정말 고막이 갈리고 머리통까지 갈려버리는 듯한 앨범들, 지독하기 짝이 없는 역겨운 앨범들 말이다. 그런데 많은 밴드들이 초반의 끔찍한 그 스타일을 금세 잊어먹는다. 고어그라인드로 롱런하기 힘들어서인지, 어정쩡하게 모던한 선을 타며 흐름을 따라가는 건지, 초기의 패기를 잊은 건지 모르겠지만 좋아하는 밴드들의 장르 전향, 이도저도 아닌 모던한 구성에 깔끔해진 모습 등을 보면 안타깝기만 하다. 밴드 재결합이래 반가운 첫 LP로, 본작의 사운드는 작년 스플릿앨범을 통해 이미 예고된바있다. 몇몇 아류들을 양성했던 이들 특유의 깡통스네어와 막장스러운 분위기에서 벗어나, 데스메탈과 하드코어펑크적 요소가 들어간 다소 정돈된 고어그라인드를 들려준다. 개인적으론 아주 만족스러운 앨범이며 성공적인 컴백이라 본다.
