베스트 앨범이란 밴드가 만든 곡들 중에서 가장 퀄리티가 좋은 곡들을 모아놓은 앨범을 말한다. 그렇기 때문에 베스트 앨범 무용론을 주장하는 이들이라도 특정 밴드의 입문용으로서의 가치를 인정하는 경우도 있다. 개인적으로 베스트 앨범은 절대 사지 않는 주의지만, 어느 밴드의 음악을 듣고 싶지만 어떤 앨범부터 들어야할지 망설여지는 경우는 왕왕 발생하곤 한다. 그럴 때 찾게 되는 앨범이 바로 베스트 앨범인데, 그런 순간에 만큼은 베스트 앨범이 상당한 가치를 지니고 있다고 할 수 있겠다. 하지만, 때로는 밴드가 이상한 앨범을 발표하는 경우가 발생한다. 선곡에서 팬들의 기호와 일치하지 않는 경우는 자주 있다. 오히려 팬들의 선호에 아주 부합하는 경우가 없는 것이 당연한 것이다. 그런데, 때로는 무슨 생각으로 밴드가 선곡을 했는지 알 수 없는 경우와 마주치는 일이 일너나기도 한다. 바로 The Best from the Noise Years 앨범이 그러한데, 제목에서 알 수 있듯이 Noise 레이블에 Rage가 몸담고 있던 시절만 담아낸 베스트 앨범이라고 할 수 있겠다. 개인적으로 이 앨범의 선곡은 Rage가 했다기보다는 레이블이 임의로 발표했다고 확신한다. 밴드 입장이라면, 이런 식으로 레이블 별로 곡을 고르기보다는 자신들 디스코그래피 전 ...
