독일의 Heavy Metal 거장 Rage의 역사적인 데뷔 앨범. Reign of Fear는 밴드의 데뷔작이니만큼 별 기대를 하지 않고 들었는데, 이 앨범은 생각보다 괜찮은 작품이었다. Rage 특유의 멜로디 라인은 이 앨범에서부터 체계가 잡혀 있다고 할 수 있겠다. 헤비 메탈과 스래쉬 메탈의 경계에 있는 연주에 실린 멜로디는 Reign of Fear부터 상당한 매력을 발산하고 있다. 다만 촌스러운 사운드가 뛰어난 작품의 완성도를 다소나마 갉아먹고 있다는 점이 걸리기는 하다. 그러나 이런 빈약한 사운드가 반드시 독이 되는 것만은 아니다. 촌스러운 사운드이면서도 헤비 메탈 팬들에게 대단한 임팩트를 가했던 Perfect Man이나 Secrets in a Weird World를 생각한다면 군내나는 사운드도 뛰어난 매력으로 다가올 수도 있다는 사실을 잘 보여준다. Reign of Fear도 마찬가지다. 위에서 언급한 히트작들에 비교하면 대단한 작품은 아니지만, Reign of Fear 는 묘하게 끌리는 작품이다. 이러한 사운드는 익숙한 이들에게는 이마저도 매력으로 작용할 여지도 충분히 있다. 이 시절에 태어난 많고 많은 밴드들의 데뷔 앨범들 사이에서는 특별할 것도 없는 작품이라 할 수 있겠지만, 이후 수십 년간 헤비 메탈씬에서 이름을 날릴 Rage의 첫 작품이라는 데에서 충분히 의의를 찾을 수 있겠다.

가장 사랑하는 밴드 중 하나인 레이지의 데뷔앨범이다. 개인적인 감정을 넣어 두고도, 굉장히 잘 만들어진 앨범이다. 쓰래쉬적 색채가 강하게 남아있고 그들만의 직선적인 작법과 멜로디가 벌써부터 돋보인다.
