This album is impressive. If you're looking for the power of metal to break through the clouds and rock you, this is not the album to come to. This album is for swimming through currents of dense textures for 42 minutes. The approach is similar to Lustre. It's also kind of similar to Deafheaven, but you might not feel like as much of a hipster while listening to Aureole. I really enjoyed this.

Aurora Borealis features an excellent atmosphere. The omnipresent cold, its consistency and beautiful synthesiser melodies reinforce it. But the ride is not as enjoyable as it could be due to a rather distracting background noise in some songs and the often inaudible vocals and guitars. Although I am sure that this is to enhance the atmosphere, I do not consider the result to be very compelling.
