Motley Crue, Twisted Sister 같은 밴드들이 댕긴 Glam Metal의 불길은 80년대 전기간에 걸쳐 활활 타올랐다. Great White 역시 초기 밴드들이 일으킨 글램 메탈 붐에 몸을 맡긴 밴드들 중에 하나인데, 이들은 글램 메탈 밴드들 중에서도 가장 Hard Rock에 가까운 사운드를 구사한 팀으로 유명하다. 이러한 노선을 걸은 밴드는 당시에 많았는데, Great White는 가장 뛰어난 연주력을 지닌 축에 들었다. 이들의 셀프 타이틀 앨범을 처음 들었을 때 들은 느낌은 Ratt와 사운드측면에서 다소 비슷하다는 점이다. 두 밴드 모두 동시기에 데뷔한 밴드로 하드록과 지근거리에 있는 음악성향을 띠고 있었는데, 좀더 대중지향적이었던 Ratt가 먼저 상업적인 성공을 거두었다. 글램 메탈 특유의 대중적인 멜로디를 지향하는 가운데, 70년대 하드록의 치열한 사운드는 아무래도 80년대의 록메탈 팬들에게는 약간 거리감이 있었는지, 본작은 그렇게까지 반향을 일으키지는 못했다. 나중에 좀더 꾸준한 면모를 보여주었던 Great White에게도 대중적인 성공이 따라 붙기도 했지만, 초기에만해도 이들은 성공한 축에 드는 밴드는 결코 아니었다. 그래도 이들의 초기앨범들은 퀄리티만을 놓고 보면 상당한 수준에 이르러 있었음을 알 수 있다. 데뷔 앨범에서부터 틀이 잡혀있는 진득 ...
