아메리칸 파워 메탈 밴드 Omen의 역사적인 데뷔 앨범. Omen은 미국 로스 엔젤리스에서 기타리스트 Kenny Powell의 주도로 결성되었다. 그는 Omen 결성 이전에 같은 지역에서 먼저 활동하고 있던 Savage Grace에 있었는데, EP 앨범 한 장만에만 참여하고 밴드를 바로 탈퇴해 버렸다. 탈퇴한 바로 그해에 Kenny Powell은 자신의 밴드Omen을 결성했고 이듬해 말, 데뷔 앨범 Battle Cry를 발표했다. 밴드의 처녀작 Battle Cry는 당시 Power Metal 밴드로서 서서히 입지를 다지기 시작한 Manowar와 초기 Savatage의 작품들과 유사하다. 이들은 서서히 인기를 얻어가고 있던 일단의 파워 메탈 밴드들과 마찬가지로 판타지스러운 가사와 남성미 넘치는 음악을 지향했다. 비록 메탈 팬들로부터 큰 반향을 불러일으키지는 못했지만, 데뷔 앨범을 발표한 시점부터 컬트 밴드로서의 명성을 얻어내기 시작했다. 이들이 리프에 실은 멜로디는 유럽에서 현재까지 맹위를 떨치고 있는 Melodic Power Metal 밴드들에 비하면 싱겁지만, 특유의 담백함으로 상당한 매력을 지니고 있다. Possibly the first Power Metal album ever, there's still a strong Heavy Metal influence, and in that way it is perhaps the first USPM bands as well. A strong album with only great songs!
