Saxon은 80년대 중반기에 접어들면 헤비 메탈 씬에서도 중진에 속하는 밴드였다. 초기 NWOBHM을 주도했던 무리 가운데에 속해있었으니, 헤비 메탈 밴드로서는 이미 고참 밴드에 속했다. 하지만, 80년대도 중간지점을 찍을 무렵에는 더 이상 NWOBHM도 시대의 흐름을 따라가지 못하게 된다. 그 결과 Saxon은 다른 길을 택하게 되는데, 밴드는 좀더 멜로딕하고 대중적인 접근을 시도하게 된다. 이러한 변화는 팬들 사이에서 당연스레 엇갈린 반응을 불러오게 된다. Saxon의 초창기 앨범들은 직선적이고 강렬한 헤비 메탈을 중심으로 해왔다. Wheels of Steel이나 Strong Arm of the Law는 NWOBHM의 기념비적인 작품이라 할 수 있겠다. 그러나 Crusader에서는 이 공격성이 다소 희석되었고, 보다 멜로딕한 사운드를 지향하게 되었다. 타이틀 트랙 같이 웅장한 분위기와 서사적인 구성을 갖춘 진지한 트랙도 있지만, 이전작들에 비해 전반적으로 느슨한 분위기가 감돌고 있다. 이와 같은 변화가 일부 팬들에게는 신선하게 다가왔던 모양이지만, 초기부터 밴드를 지지했던 팬들에게는 별반 매력없게 들렸던 모양이다. 하지만, 변화는 나름 성공을 거두었다. 미국시장에서 상대적으로 약세를 보였던 Saxon은 더 좋은 반응을 얻으면서 새로운 팬층을 확보하는데 기여했다. ... In my opinion, this is where Saxon go downhill. The music is alright, but very standard, and the vocal lines aren't catchy or impressive at all. Very Hard Rock feel to it.

와 처음부터 끝까지 기대 이상으로 흡족했던 작품이었다. Crusader, A Little Bit Of What You Fancy ,Sailing To America 그리고 대미를 장식하며 코러스가 인상적인 Run For Your Lives. 빼버릴게 없는 명반.

일전에 tape으로 가지고 있었던 앨범이다. 전체적으로 무난히 들을만 했던 기억이 난다. tape으로 들어야 이것 저것 골라 듣지 않고 전체를 감상 할 수 있었던 것 같다...
