Yngwie Malmsteen의 뒤를 잇는 또다른 Neo-classical Metal의 강자 Joe Stump의 두 번째 앨범. Joe Stump의 Night of the Living Shred는 전작인 Guitar Dominance보다 나아진 면모를 보여주고 있다. 비교적 뛰어난 기량을 보여주었던 데뷔 앨범에서는 Joe Stump 혼자 앞서 나간다는 느낌이 강했는데, 이번 앨범에서는 멤버들과 좀더 호흡을 맞춰서 향상된 연주를 들려주고 있다. Joe Stump의 솔로 자체도 전에는 상당히 투박하다는 느낌이 들었지만, 본작에서는 좀더 유려한 톤을 내고 있다. 개인적으로는 Guitar Dominance도 괜찮았다고 생각하지만, Night of the Living Shred는 그이상을 들려주고 있어서 아주 만족스럽다. 그것이 Yngwie Malmsteen처럼 솔로를 하더라도 보컬이 있는 메탈 음악을 하는게 아니어서 인상은 다소 덜 하지만, Joe Stump의 연주는 선명히 기억에 남는다. 네오 클래시컬 메탈의 가장 큰 단점 중 하나는 들으면 들을수록 진부한 멜로디 라인으로 진부하게 하는 경우가 많은데, 본작에서 Joe Stump의 연주는 그러한 면모를 보이고 있지 않다. Night of the Living Shred에서 Joe Stump는 네오 클레시컬 색채를 띠는 일반적인 밴드들의 음악보다 첫인상이 그렇게까지 강한 음악을 들려주지는 않으나, 오래 두고 곱씹을 만한 매력이 있는 앨범을 만들은 것은 분명했다.

Ultimately, Neoclassical Metal (specifically instrumental solo shred albums) had completely stagnated by the 90’s. Not that they stopped coming out, but it had long since stopped being interesting, and Metal had already started evolving in so many ways that 40 minutes of guitar soloing began to sound simple and boring no matter how technical and impressive it was.
