Katatonia의 앨범 중에서 가장 인상깊게 들었던 앨범은 Night Is the New Day와 Dead End Kings였다. 초기 무거운 둠 메탈에서 탈피하여 모던한 감성으로 무장한 두 앨범은 성공적이었다고 생각한다. Katatonia는 더 나아가서 호평을 받았던 Dead End Kings를 어쿠스틱 버전으로 연주하여 앨범을 발표하기에 이른다. 개인적으로 이 시도 또한 크게 성공적이라고 생각한다. Dethroned and Uncrowned라는 이름으로 발표된 전작의 어쿠스틱 버전 앨범은 Katatonia의 재능을 더 신뢰하는 계기가 되었다. 비교적 잔잔한 풍이지만, 그래도 메탈의 카테고리에서 벗어나지 않았던 Dead End Kings보다도 전자음을 배제하고 어쿠스틱 기타로 연주한 버전이 개인적으로 더 귀에 잘 들어온다. 조용하면서도 명징한 기타 사운드와 맑고 투명한 보컬링, 그리고 우울하지만 스산하면서도 세련된 느낌을 자아내는 분위기는 Katatonia만이 낼 수 있지 않을까 싶다. 어쿠스틱 기타로 밴드의 독특한 무드는 더욱더 심화되어 리스너의 감성을 마구 자극한다. Katatonia도 메탈 음악의 반경에 있는 밴드이니 만큼, Dethroned and Uncrowned와 같은 이색적인 시도는 더 하지는 않을 거라고 생각된다. 그러나 개인적으로는 이들의 재능은 오히려 포크 사운드에 있는게 아닌가 싶을 정도로 본작에서 강한 인상 ... See More
