Virgin steele은 한국 내의 메탈 매니아들에겐 [The marriage of heaven and hell] 시리즈와 [The house of Atreus] 시리즈로 알려진 밴드다. 한국 내에서의 지명도는 그야말로 능지처참할 정도이지만, 상당수의 매니아층을 형성하고 있는 밴드이기도 하다. 이들의 이름이 익숙하지 않을 사람들을 위해 한국에서 이들보다 더 많이 알려진 밴드의 이야기를 좀 하자면, Avantasia 프로젝트의 두 번째 앨범에 수록된 트랙 중 하나인 The final sacrifice에서 Tobias Sammet과 호흡을 맞춰 말 그대로 야수적인 울부짖음을 들려준 그 인물이 바로 Virgin steele의 보컬리스트 David Defeis다. 그리고 그는 말 그대로 천재라는 소리가 어울리는 뮤지션 중 하나이며, 그의 음악적 스타일에 대해 호불호가 갈리는 면이 있음에도 불구하고 팬들의 충성도는 매우 높은 편에 속한다. 그런데 이 충성스러운 팬들이 입을 모아 씹어대는 Virgin steele의 졸반이라는 것이 하나 있으니, 그 앨범이 바로 이 [Life among the ruins] 이다. 잘 모를 이들을 위해 해설을 달자면, Helloween에게 있어 [Chameleon] 과 같은 취급을 받는 앨범이 바로 이 녀석이다.

nemôžem napísať, že by "Life Among the Ruins" bolo zlé album, ale štýlovo je úplne inde (od zbytku predošlých albumov). Mám pocit, akoby sa chalani zhliadli v kapele Whitesnake a predkladali svoje pojatie Melodického Hard Rock -u s občasnými prvkami heavíku. Aj zvukovú stránku tomu prispôsobili.

Virgin Steele take a few steps back here and pump out some fun cheesy rockers. Doesn't hold a candle to their Heavy/Power Metal material, but it's not bad on its own.
