Rush 후기 최고의 역작 중 하나라고 생각된다. 곡들의 코러스가 매우 뚜렷하여 간단하고 힘있는 구조의 곡들이 많고, 엣날 작품들보다 확연히 줄어든 키보드의 비중이 눈에 띈다. 2112의 정교한 테크닉은 찾아보기 힘드나 밸런스가 무척 뛰어나다는 느낌이 든다. 러쉬의 프로그레시브한 면을 선호하는 사람들에게는 어필하지 못하겠지만, 그렇다고 이들의 스타일을 완전히 찾아볼 수 없을 정도는 아니다.
Animate, Nobody's Hero는 위의 특징들을 뚜렷하게 나타내주는 후크송(?)들이다.
닐 퍼트의 가사는 모가 아니면 도인데 이 앨범의 가사들은 상당히 감명깊다.

활어회처럼 펄떡거리는 Animate의 생동감에 한번 뻑가고 솔의 눈을 콧구멍에 들이붓는 듯한 Nobody's Hero의 청량감에 한번 더 뻑간다. 2112, Moving Pictures에 버금가는 또 하나의 걸작

Perfect. No room for improvement. All the songs are solid, the lyrics are really deep, and all three technicians explore their full potential. Pure genius!
