Tales from the Punchbowl je štýlovo po predošlom mierne odlišnejšom, psychadelickejšom a temnejšom albume návratom k Alternative/Funk/Experimental Rock -u. Osobne sa mi práve viac páčilo predošlé album. Predný obal mal viac verzií, pričom na LP verzii sú zobrazení členovia - skupina v maskách tučniakov, stojac na ľadovci. Album je prístupnejšie, ubudli tvrdšie prvky a je aj viac priamočiarejšie.
Zvuk je akoby viac špinavší - v porovnaní s ich predošlými albumami. Po nahraní albumu odišiel na určitý čas bubeník Tim "Herb" Alexander, avšak neskôr - v roku 2003 sa vrátil do skupiny.
