2024 is officially the year of the Nu Metal resurgence. And if Alpha Wolf and Dealer didn’t prove that, Diamond Construct should. This is some of the best work I’ve heard done with electronics in metal music, and it features insane guitar work, reminiscent of the aforementioned Dealer, but with really unique vocals sounding closer to a band like Windwaker or Diesect. The songs are each unique and there aren’t many repeats throughout the album. One of its flaws is the lyrics, which are super hit or miss. Some are written strongly and with emotion, while others come off as corny or overplayed. This is especially apparent when comparing a song like Zodiac Memories to Switchblade OST. Also, in some tracks, some of the cleans/rap sections can get drowned out by the instrumentals, making it hard to hear just how good they are. It’s a solid album, front to back. No bad songs, but no true standouts like many other albums this year.
