Alestorm의 두 번째 앨범 Black Sails at Midnight은 새로운 방향으로 위험을 감수하기보단 초기 성공을 기반으로 인기전선을 구축하기로 결심한 그들의 의지를 드러낸다. 데뷔 앨범에서 이미 완성도 높은 사운드를 만들었던 그들은 좀더 이를 심화시키는 방향으로 나아가고 있다. 파워 메탈 리프와 포크 멜로디, 눈길을 잡아 끄는 가사 등 모든 것은 이들이 다루는 해적 테마를 뚜렷하게 압축하고 있다. 특히 수록곡들에서 확인할 수 있는 후크 멜로디와 코러스는 여타 밴드들과 구별되는 Alestorm의 장기로, 이들의 라이브 무대를 꼭 한 번은 보고 싶다는 생각이 들게 만들 정도로 앨범 전체에 화끈한 열기를 불어넣는다. 앨범은 때로는 너무 진지하지 않지만, 중독성 있고 재미있는 음악을 즐기는 이들에게 당당히 그 매력을 어필하고 있다. 언어의 한계로 가사가 정확히 이해되지 않더라도 소리만으로 밴드는 귀에 쏙쏙 들어오는 리듬, 중동성 있는 멜로디와 유쾌한 분위기로 청자를 강하게 사로 잡는다.
