섹스와 마약이 화두였던 당시의 Glam Metal 계에서 정결한 성령의 이미지를 앞세운 Christian Metal 을 선보여 신선한 파장을 일으켰다. 이쪽 계열 밴드들이 비교적 떨어지는 수준의 데뷔작을 선보이는 것이 보통인데, Stryper의 데뷔작은 전성기와 크게 다르지 않은 수준의 음악을 들려주어 준비된 밴드임을 입증하는 듯하다. 다만, 멜로디 라인의 집중도가 떨어지는 것이 흠이랄까. 원래 6곡을 수록하고 있었으나 1986년에 두 곡을 추가하여 재발매되었다.

필수 앨범은 아니다. 왜 메킹에서 ep 등록이 되어 있냐면 84년 1-6으로 나왔다가 86년 7,8번 울나라 가요 리패키지반처럼 나왔다 9. "Winter Wonderland" (Japan bonus track) . you know what 정도가 나름 유명한 트랙이고 나머지는 마이클 스위트의 보컬과 기타 듣는 재미로 듣는 앨범이다.

사운드 측면에서 아주 귀여운 부분이 있고 일부 곡들은 나중 리메이크 버전이 선명하고 좋긴하다. 그닥 손에 많이 가진 않을듯함...

스트라이퍼의 자랑스러운 데뷔작으로, 약간은 가벼운 헤비메탈 사운드를 들려줍니다. 촌스럽기는한데 80년대초반 나왔던 헤비메탈이 다 그렇죠. 그 시대에 촌스러운 느낌이 없는 헤비메탈이 있었기나한가 싶습니다. 앞으로 보여줄 사운드에서 힘만 덜 들어가있을뿐 대동소이한 음악입니다. 이미 완성된 가창력으로 시원하게 질러대는 보컬이 역시 매력적입니다.

<To Hell With the Devil>로 처음 Stryper를 접하고 이 앨범을 접했을 때의 느낌이 아직도 기억난다. 너무 별로여서 한 번 듣고 다신 안 들었었다. 지금 다시 들어보니 그렇게까지 나쁘진 않다.
