The Haunted – One Kill Wonder (2003) | 95/100 Jun 13, 2021 |
If you haven't grabbed a The Haunted CD be sure to get this one. One of my all time favorite thrash albums. Seen them live twice. First time they were new and the second time when this album dropped. I saw the guys eating dinner before the show at a restaurant. This was in L.A. Problem was the show was sold out. I told them how much I loved their work and I'd be outside listening. There wasn't anything they could do that night but they told me and my friends if we went up to S.F. the following night they'd get us in. And they did. Super cool guys! AMAZING SHOW!!! I'll never forget their kindness in person and brutal-ness on stage. This was my favorite line up of theirs as well. I prefer a good screamer to a seasoned singer when it comes to thrash.

Khemmis – Hunted (2016) | 95/100 Jun 13, 2021 |
Where have I been? How did I not hear these guys until the Pandemic? I thank the pandemic for giving me way too much to discover more music. These guys are AMAZING!!! I didn't want to speak too soon. I wanted to let this album sink in. I wanted to get sick of it before giving my opinion. Problem is I can't get sick of it. It's not perfect, but it's perfect enough to live forever in my rotation. I found this CD on iTunes music. I loved it at first listen. So I did an online search and found I'm not the only person feeling this way. Hallelujah!!!!! Lol. It's slow. It's low. It's heavy as sin. The vocals are what really grab me. I don't listen to much doom so when I do it means something. Too bad I live in Mexico.. doubt I'll have a chance to see them live.

Cave In – Until Your Heart Stops (1999) | 90/100 Jun 13, 2021 |
Chugga-chugga chunks are there, refined into escalating and edgy walls of sound with psychedelia and noise. At times expansive and at other times dark and claustrophobic. When fused with the usual jarring assemblage of riffs, a bold and original heavy music is created. Perhaps the only band who has successfully tread similar ground is Neurosis. Until Your Heart Stops' production is a major force as well; the band's undertakings are captured and conveyed in a way that at times sound impossibly dense, balancing gut-stabbing bottom end with piercing highs. This is one key factor among many that burn away the hardcore framework through which Cave-In originally slipped. Mind you, their sound has changed dramatically through the years. This album is a prog metal masterpiece.

Rise Against – Nowhere Generation (2021) | 95/100 Jun 13, 2021 |
First review! Boo-ya! LOL. I'm a metalhead that loves anarchy so punk resonates with me. This band especially. For melodic punk they still get the message across. Wonderful individuals in this band. This album, I've played it just twice so far, is something special from these guys. Below I added a write-up I found online that describes it the way I would if I had the poetry in me. :)
Society’s deck has been stacked against most of us. From crippling college debt and poverty-level wages to labor automation and political malfeasance, this album seeks to voice the frustrations of the increasingly disenfranchised. “Much of this was written before the pandemic, but if the pandemic hadn’t happened, I don’t think the lyrics would hit as hard.. A lot of the cracks in civil society— ... See More
Neurosis – Through Silver in Blood (1996) | 100/100 Jun 13, 2021 |
This neurosis album changed the lives of many metal heads. Myself included. The shape of the metal scene was changed in fact. Starting in California and bleeding it's way outward. Years later, I hear the influence of this monumental album in the music of my favorite bands. Mastodon brings Scott Kelly (vocalist) into the studio to cameo on multiple albums. It's respect. I've heard his voice in a Converge song. I'm sure he's all over the place now. And it's because this album, when it dropped, it dropped HARD and influenced metal sub genres outside of doom itself. The tracks entitled 'Through Silver in Blood' and 'Locust Star' are stands out for me but the whole album is... possibly flawless. Three thumbs up!

At the Gates – The Nightmare of Being (2021) | 85/100 Jul 3, 2021
There are some good songs on here. The Paradox is by far my favorite on the album. I didn't care for a lot of it. Often times, It didn't feel like ATG. Other standouts for me were Touched by the White Hand of Death, Eternal Winter of Reason and Spectre of Extinction.

Omnium Gatherum – New World Shadows (2011) | 95/100 Jul 3, 2021
This is my favorite melodeath album of the past 10 years. It's just beautiful. I am not a big fan of the lyrics but I can feel his emotions quite well which adds so much beauty to this album. The harmonic work between the guitarists and the touch of synth makes me think old In Flames and Dark Tranquility made love and had two babies, Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum. Solid album.

At the Gates – Slaughter of the Soul (1995) | 100/100 Jun 13, 2021
I have to give this album a score of 100. It's perfect. Possibly my all time favorite CD. I wish they hadn't taken such a long break. The new stuff doesn't grab me like this did.

In Flames – Whoracle (1997) | 95/100 Jun 13, 2021
This album changed my life. I remember the first time hearing the song Jotun like it were yesterday. This may be the album that made me switch from a sXe hardcore kid to a metalhead. I really wish they hadn't gone so mainstream.

For what they do I don't think it can be done any better than this album. Grindcore rockn'roll!!! This shit has me banging both my heads while laughing. Not laughing at... laughing with.

BRUTAL!!!!!! Technical and mind melting. I've seen these guys a few times. One time the bassist ran into the crowd swinging his bass and I think someone got hit because there was a loud thunderous boom. Lol. Oops.

Mutoid Man – War Moans (2017) | 95/100 Jun 13, 2021
I LOVE Converge. I LOVE Cave In. I love those bands for their pushing of the envelope of progressive heavy, sometimes quite extreme, music. This communion has become my anthem band. I can't stop rocking' out to this! Blending odd time signatures with rock and metal and punk. They pull it off organically. In my opinion they are the best 3 piece since High On Fire.

Cattle Decapitation – Death Atlas (2019) | 95/100 Jun 10, 2021
"Daaaaaaammmmmnnnn, Cattle Decap have improved over the years. I saw them on tour with Necrophagist in S.F., they were awesome but I hadn't heard anything from them since. So upon listening to this I shat myself! I fell so deeply in love I almost went vegan. I still might.
