The year is 2049. Flying cars are commonplace. Artificial intelligence has been given the right to vote and Iron Maiden is planning its farewell tour. Brazil has just won its 30th gold medal of the millennium in football. The heavy metal band Beast in Black has made a current album where lasers wave, neon lights create their cold atmosphere and the back seat of airplanes is consumed in the sign of loose relationships between humans and cyborgs.
Anton Kabanen is one of the most advanced song writers of his time, whose pen produces merciless earworms from album to album. "Dark Connection" is Beast in Black's third full-length, and continues directly from where the previous one left off. The mood is fast-paced, and synthwave and barracks pop-style patterns shine through the influences most clearly. This does not surprise anyone even remotely familiar with the band. What is more surprising is that the aforementioned influences are brought out even more brazenly and clearly. And this is a good thing. The music is more synapop flavored with metallic elements than the other way around.
The song material is consistent across the board, with the exception of a few fillers. The opening track "Blade Runner" and the lead single "Moonlight Rendezvous" are shaking the most, the music video of which seems to have a few glimpses of a band that served as a source of inspiration. Beast in Black som doteraz okrem pár piesní do hĺbky moc nepoznal. Na aktuálnom albume "Dark Connection" mi zo začiatku v dvoch piesňach veľmi vadili "plechové / umelé" / old school pop -ové bicie (konkrétne v piesni "One Night in Tokyo" a "Moonlight Rendezvous", nepočítam bonucový cover). Ten zvuk mi pripadal ako z 85-eho alebo 86-eho roku. Smiešne bicie, avšak časom (pri viacnásobnom počúvaní albumu) som aj tento experiment / nedostatok prekonal. Po hudobnej stránke kombinujú Heavy Metal s old school pop -ovými / synthpop / elektronickými prvkami. Zvuk albumu je kvalitný, Yannis Papadopoulos má podarený spev (vokál) a hudobné nástroje znejú prevažbe zaujímavo (v rámci štýlu). Bonusové covery od Manowar a Michael -a Jackson - a som čakal, že budú trošku viac originálne (nie sú zlé, ale počul som už originálnejšie).

Dark Connection is definitely better than its reputation, although it is clear that the album is the band's weakest and most uneven so far. On the first albums, the combination of power metal and "80s party music" worked quite well and in a controlled manner, but on this album it already becomes annoying and exaggerated in places. There are still real gems on the album and you can definitely recommend the album to try, although I don't think it will change anyone's world.

뽕삘에는 전자음악이지!! 자신들의 장기를 여전히 잘 살리는 신나는 앨범. 이들이 battle beast 보다 한 수 위인 이유는, 전 앨범을 통틀어 필러트랙이 없을 정도다. 그냥 첨부터 끝까지 다 룰루랄라다.. 하나를 팔 거면 이정도는 되야..! 지금까진 좋지만 확실히 한끝의 변화를 노려봐야 하지 않을까 하는 시점인 듯 하다.

신스 사운드가 너무 촌빨날린다 이거만 빼고 스트레이트하게 갔으면 더 좋았을거같은데 아쉽다. Attack Attack이 파워메탈을 하면 이렇게 할지도?

7080 롤러장 사운드의 뽕짝 신스 범벅 사이버펑크 컨셉의 파워댄스메탈 진지한 메탈의 음악성을 기대하며 각잡고 듣는 것보다 아무 생각 없이 틀었을 때가 더 좋음. 난 이런 스타일 좋아해서 아직도 즐겨 듣는다. 노래는 100점인데 앨범 자켓이 너무 구려서 10점 깎음.

여전히 신나는 뽕짝메탈을 들려준다. 운전하면서 듣기 정말 좋은 노래들로 꽉꽉 채워져 있다. 마지막 커버곡도 꽤 재밌게 들었다. 다만 쉽게 질리는 것은 어쩔 수 없다.

긴 머리에 수염까지 기른 상남자들이 이런 댄스 음악을 들려준다는 것이 내심 놀랍다. 같은 비트라도 헤드뱅잉은 할 수 있는데 댄스는 어느 박자에서 손발이 나가야 할지 모르겠다.

너무 기대치가 높았던 걸까... 2집과 퀄리티 면에서 크게 나아진 것은 없는데 이미 이들의 스타일이 익숙해졌다보니 그렇게 확 매력적으로 들리지는 않는다. 문제는 철지난 블레이드러너 사이버펑크 컨셉과 별로인걸 넘어 짜증나기까지 한 앨범커버가 곡에 집중하기 어렵게 만든다... 계속 이런 식인 것도 좋지만 슬슬 다른 시도를 좀 해보면 어떨까 한다.

드림테일 2016년 앨범과 비슷한 유로댄스 메탈이다. 차이점이라면 그래도 기타 사운드는 더 강렬하다. 사운드가 유치뽕짝이라고 말할수도 있겠는데 틀린말은 아닌듯 보인다.

아쉬움이 많이 남는 앨범이다. 이전 두 앨범을 좋게들었는데 유로 댄스풍의 사운드가 이번엔 좀 지나쳤다고 생각이 든다. 듣다보면 춤을 춰야할지 헤드뱅잉을 해야할지 고민되게 한다. 그래도 워낙 실력이 있는 밴드라 들어줄만은 하다. 그리고 앨범 자켓이 성의가 없다.

전작에 이어 또 다시 유로댄스를 들려줌. 이런 노선을 타는 이유가 이해가 안가며, 전작과 마찬가지로 개인적으로 상당히 실망스러움. Battle Beast 선공개 곡이 훨씬 나은듯 함. 그나마 후반부곡들이 괜찮은 편이며, Manowar커버는 준수함.
