Bloodbath는 익스트림 메탈에 조금이라도 관심이 있는 사람이라면 지나치기 어려운 밴드가 아닌가 싶다. Bloodbath는 슈퍼 밴드로 개시되었다. Opeth의 Mikael Åkerfeldt, Katatonia의 Jonas Renkse, Edge of Sanity의 Dan Swanö라는 당대 익스트림 메탈 씬을 주도하는 대표 아티스트들이 몽땅 한 밴드에 올려있는데, 관심이 가지 않을 수 없다. 하지만, Bloodbath의 데뷔 앨범은 Resurrection Through Carnage는 평이 분명하게 갈리는 경향이 있다. 부정적인 시각으로 이 앨범을 대하는 사람들에게서는 역시 소문난 잔치에는 먹을 게 없었다는 뉘앙스의 평을 들었고, 앨범에 대해 긍정적인 평을 남긴 사람들은 명불허전이라고 말했다. 부정적인 평에 중점을 두고 이 앨범을 들었지만, 상당히 괜찮게 들었다. 일단 Mikael Åkerfeldt의 그로울링을 프로그레시브 메탈을 구사하는 Opeth가 아닌 데스 메탈을 하는 밴드에서 들을 수 있었던 것도 이 앨범의 장점이었고, 무엇보다도 멜로딕 데스 메탈과는 아주 결이 다른 Entombed를 연상시키는 멜로디와 음산한 분위기도 듣기 좋았다. 다만, 부정적인 평가를 남긴 사람들에게 동의하는 바는, 어벤져스급 명사들이 모여 만든 앨범치고는 다소 조촐하게 들린다는 점이다. 그들 개개인의 음악적 역량을 고려하였을 때 Resurrection Through Carnage는 ... 뭐 솔직히 이 밴드가 스웨덴 데스 사생아것들의 시초격이 되는건 맞는데 간접적이기도 하고 에효 이때쯤에 스웨덴 데스 사생아들이 활개친거 보면 정말 ㄱㅡ이란 어이없음부터 나온다. 다만 좋은 곡들도 있긴 있어서 이렇게 줌.

빡셈도 빡셈이지만 완급조절과 리드기타의 사용이 맘에듭니다. Dismember나 Entombed 특유의 메이든 멜로디와 차별화되는 음산한 멜로디라인도 맘에 들고요. Death Delirium같이 분위기에 취해있다가 갑자기 확 빡센 리프로 잡아 끄는것도 좋고, Bathe in Blood 처럼 클래식하게 D-beat로 조지는것도 맘에 듭니다.

Listening, I tried to come up with a word to perfectly describe this album, and I managed to find it. The word? Kick-Ass. The album has a lot of guitar lines that instantly stick to your head, and it's mostly presented in a trademark Swedish Death Metal sound. The buzzzzing guitar tone is, in essence, what makes this album.
