I'm still trying to figure out exactly what depressive rock is supposed to sound like. Anyway, this gloomy album is all well played. The songwriting is also good, but maybe just a hair under the cover of Coma White, but that's quite a masterpiece to compete against, and Mother Augusta's efforts here are valiant and captivating. To me, it sounds like they are totally capable musicians. Unfortunately on this album, they're just reworking obvious elements of a bunch of Type O Negative songs, and the result is weaker music that doesn't flow as well the Type O Negative stuff. Please guys, just come up with your own melody and build an original song around it. In the end, this album is so-so, but we should just listen to the originators instead. May 6, 2023

I liked it more than I thought I was going to. The drumming is great. I'm not so into Overkill's vocals, but on this album I found all the vocals fun & playful. Also, I was assuming that fans of Metallica's 72 Seasons would not enjoy this album, but I enjoyed both. Respect to the Overkill guys. May 6, 2023

Good doom that is not always slow. I like very slow doom, but this is a refreshing change. After listening to The Nest's album last year, I thought I should look up the main projects from the collaborating members, so I wasn't surprised that Dread Sovereign is this good. May 6, 2023

First of all, a lot of bands are named Malphas. Second of all, the drummer is also in Thron and Aara (and Aara released one of the best metal album of this year). Third of all, this Malphas album is great all the way through. In other words, the other members are on the same high level as the drummer. All good news. May 6, 2023

Blackened thrash goodness. I was into the whole album, but not extremely into it. May 6, 2023

Oh Hell Yes!!!!! This is number one out of my new discoveries of this week. This is all good stuff, but middle section of the album, well, most of it, is the absolute top-tier music. It has deep melancholy, nostalgia, grieving, & anger too. I love this EP like crazy. May 6, 2023

Good riffing and good composition overall. The vocal style is not quite my thing. You might not be surprised that this one dips into atmospheric BM territory a little here & there (because of that excellent cover artwork). Doesn't feel top tier to me, but I'll be content to hear it again. May 6, 2023

Compared to Brightside, the songs are better; in other words, I really really like it. Also, the sound of this recording feels just right to me. May 6, 2023

The energy is so good I'd bet anything these guys were great live. Also, that's an awesome cover to match the album title. May 6, 2023

Oh Night, Take me Away! I loved the consistent flows of both aggression and melancholy. May 6, 2023

I'm pleased to find this artist dependable. This is good energetic djent that exists in the cringe-free world of instrumental music. May 6, 2023

The orchestrations are truly amazing, with tons of variety, and are completely relevant to the metal, so they're not extra in any way. The amazing color palette on the cover art matches how different the various parts of the album are from one another. You might be guessing this is all campy but it's absolutely not; it's serious and well made. Apr 29, 2023

Well produced and good compositions. I don't really get excited by this music, but I can hear the skill level. I guess I'm impressed but not moved. Apr 29, 2023

I'm glad Osmose Productions just put out a remaster of this album, because it prompted me to finally give this one a try. There is great variety in tempo. The slow parts are creepy and unsettling. The faster parts are evil and threatening. Great vocals & an awesome drum sound. Super high quality all around. Apr 29, 2023

Elfstone is absolutely one of the best songs of all time. I feel like some parts of this album are filler, and that's the only reason I don't give it a perfect score. It's all in a gorgeous D.I.Y. sound, and the melodies and atmosphere are master tier. Apr 29, 2023

These compositions are based so much around the singing melody, but some of those melodies aren't as evocative or playful as I'm looking for. Also, I think tracks 9 and 10 are the only very high quality material here; I'll definitely listen to those 2 songs again. For me, the rest is kind of average. Apr 29, 2023

I liked all the songs on this album, but there are so many sudden track changes that I don't think I'll listen to this one much. It's hard to decide how much to deduct for this flaw because it's still good music. Apr 29, 2023

It's obvious these guys find true inspiration in Hindu mythology. I just want a longer album, please. Apr 29, 2023

The songwriting in Antares is a little better. Also, on this one I felt the harsh vocals could have been a little better. Overall, still good. Apr 29, 2023

Today I went this far back in their discography, and I got something even more powerful than I expected. What a great band. Apr 29, 2023

Very atmospheric BM with some strong melancholy coming through at the same time. The band name is maybe the best sounding name I've heard in a long time. Wonder what it means......... Apr 27, 2023

Brilliant compositions that are recorded & produced in a very very Trent way. Marilyn's voice sounds astoundingly good on just about everything. After some years, I was shocked that Tourniquet is even better than I remembered it. Safe to call this one a legendary album. Apr 27, 2023

Yes I really loved this, so hail comfy synth! Also, it strongly reminds me of peaceful songs by Nobuo Uematsu, mostly bgm for villages or indoor home scenes, which is a compliment. Apr 27, 2023

This album blew me away. The vocals are much better than Pentagram. Also, I hear some atmospheric BM, and some pagan too. Am I crazy? I'm surprised it sounds that way to me considering it's 1996. Anyway, truly great black metal here. Apr 26, 2023

First of all, retro album art for the win here. For a while now, I feel like I find so much good stoner doom, but never great. These days I'm breaking that streak of bad luck. This is truly great stoner doom. Actually, I love how it hangs out in heavy metal territory for a few bars and then just blasts you with dank stoner doom or staggering straight doom. Here's a recent band to keep on your radar. Apr 26, 2023

Very melodious songs, all done in extremely good taste. For me, though, track 4 blows everything else away. I can't stop thinking about that incredible song. One of the best tracks this year, if not number 1. Apr 26, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
