The Fire of Awakening을 발표할 때 즈음하면 Graveland에게서 초기 Black Metal 시절의 잔재는 거의 남아있지 않다. 프로덕션이나 작곡력 모든 부분에서 밴드는 괄목할 만큼 성장했다. Rob Darken은 초기부터 꾸준히 좋은 작품을 발표함으로써 Graveland를 씬내에서 입지전적인 밴드의 위치에 올렸다. 그러나 가끔 이들의 과거가 그리울 때도 있다. 특히 사운드 측면에서 그러하다. 밴드의 중후반기 작품들은 웅장한 사운드를 좋아하는 취향상 맘에 들기도 하지만 아쉬운 부분이 없는 것은 아니다. 전체적으로 작품의 질을 따져봤을때 분명 중후반기에 발표된 앨범들이 초창기적 앨범들보다 훨씬 뛰어난 것은 말할 것도 없다. 그러나 The Fire of Awakening에 접어들어서는 초기 밴드의 날선 느낌이 거의 거세되었다. 대신 심포닉 사운드의 비중이 커지면서 작품 전체에는 윤기가 감돌고 있다. 그 결과 적어도 Creed of Iron까지 살아있었던 날카로운 면모는 이제 거의 마모되어 버렸다.
