Mix Cirith Ungol and Hellhammer together, then aggregate a dash of Scott Reagers-era Saint Vitus, and you basically get this strange album by this mysterious Icelandic trio. If you thought Tim Baker was rough on the ears, you should listen to Steinþór Nicolaison. Half of the time he sounds like a rooster who's choking on some oversized kernels or that red, anthropomorphic parrot from "Aladdin" (the one voiced by Gilbert Gottfried). I imagine his demented screeches and squawking will put off the vast majority of listeners (only those brave souls who are already accustomed to unorthodox and obnoxious vocalists will be able to tolerate Steinþór). Anyway, "Fire And Steel" is for sure an amusing Blackened Thrash/Doom Metal oddity that's worth experiencing at least once. Standouts include the blazing "Evil" and the 11-minute blackened doom dirge of "Heroes In Black", as well as "Our Time Is Coming", "Cut You Down" and the title track.
