Progressive Metal하면 가장 먼저 떠오르는 밴드는 어떤 밴드일까? 아마도 Dream Theater일 것이다. 그게 아니라면, Dream Theater의 세례를 받은 밴드들이 생각날 것이다. 아마도 Magellan이라는 이름은 별로 떠오르지 않을 것이다. 그도 그럴게 Magellan은 Dream Theater류의 프로그레시브 메탈과는 궤를 달리하고 있기 때문이다. 이들의 작품세계에는 Dream Thetar가 보여준 고도의 테크닉은 거의 보이지 않는다. 단지 이들은 컨셉에 맞춰서 흐름을 중시하는 연주를 보여주고 있다. 이런 점은 Peter Gabriel이 주도했던 시기의 프로그레시브 록 밴드 Genesis와 닮아 있다. 프로그레시브 메탈을 단순히 테크니컬한 연주가 곁들여진 장르 정도로 인식하고 있는 리스너라면 Magellan의 Hour of Restoration 은 맞지 않을 것이다. 이 앨범에서 Dream Theater류의 혀를 내두를 정도의 복잡한 연주는 찾을 수 없다. 여기에 있는 것은 단지 드라마틱한 연주와 구성으로 이루어진 작품만이 있을 뿐이다.
