Very good thrash in a very good year for thrash. 110% old school. Also it's a reminder that clean vocals can exist in thrash. Here they're clean shouting/singing. Anyway, time travelers from 1985 won't be confused if they hear this album. Another point that's funny to say, but their logo became one million times better with this album. Nov 21, 2023

Very lo-fi and the riffs are evil & gorgeous. Vocals are distorted like Burzum, and to good effect. The ambient parts are nice enough that I refuse to skip them. (Also black 'n roll comes right out of nowhere in a fun way for a moment.) Solid BM from a brand spanking new artist. Nov 21, 2023

Super ambitious album that goes into all genres of music, and I can tell these guys are sometimes just wiping all genres from their minds and composing unique original ideas. Maybe the most important point is how staggeringly beautiful all these songs are. Nov 18, 2023

Super cathartic post-metal. No vocals here, and these songs are better without vocals. I hope Déhà makes more music in this style and tries to make it even better. Anyway, It's a good short album. Nov 18, 2023

Fierce & evil in a way that implies hardship, suffering, & struggle. That icy intro does a lot to set the mood. Highlights like the wicked laughing at the end of track 2 show they really put thought & effort in. More importantly, they did the same with the instrumentation which is full of interesting twists & turns while keeping the fury & attitude that define great black metal. Nov 18, 2023

I really liked this traditional doom. The vocals are very distant and full of echo, and I understand how this might turn off a lot of listeners. I do feel that these songs kinda de-emphasize the vocals and relegate them to a supporting role of aiding the mood, so it works well to my ear. If that sounds cool to you, I'll bet you'll like this. Pretty good summer-feeling songs, but the repeated fade-outs bring my score down 5 points. Please just write an end to your compositions. Also, the final ambient track is done so well, I'm amazed it was actually 8 minutes. Nov 18, 2023

Well-played deathgrind songs. Even though there are goregrind themes in the music, it didn't detract from my experience. Actually everything on this album is either fun or energizing. Nice. Nov 18, 2023

Symphonic & gothic done very well - I'm very glad to say, because I've been finding so many albums of this type to be weakened by commercial influence. Nothing really negative I hear on this one; just consistently pleasant music in songs that range from good to excellent. Nov 18, 2023

Excellent music that gives a striking dark mood. The instrumentation is almost soothing as it keeps switching back and forth between complementary types of rapid heaviness. One section of barfy vocals early on is a bit absurd. For the rest of this wonderful album, the music is more self-aware about how ridiculous the genre is, and that makes me just enjoy the fury. This is only for adventurous people, but it's excellent. Nov 18, 2023

Great urgent feeling to the vocals. The melodies are full of danger & wrath. I'm guessing some people won't approve of that album tittle, but it's still a good EP. Nov 18, 2023

There's a lot of interesting musical ideas going on in this album. The title track is a hypnotic & groovy masterpiece. Recommended. Nov 18, 2023

Spooky floating feelings combined with evil melodies. At times I hear Elffor's influence. Anyway, it's a good album early on in their career. Nov 17, 2023

Based on the cover I expected a frostier more brisk sound. What I got was Summoning-worship but in a darker tone. Pretty good. Nov 17, 2023

A-tier vocals, A-tier songwriting, A-tier production, and S-tier guitarwork that makes this album truly a joy to listen to. Some of us might groan when we read 'melodeath & groove metal' because it's like saying overly commercial Western Europe & overly commercial USA, but all the music on this one is in such good taste that you'll like it even if you hate those genres. Don't they know that auto-tune sounds like filthy garbage? A huge recording industry with 'pro' producers and they don't have their heads on straight. The songs are mostly disjointed: there's nothing connecting the metal, pop, and trance sections, like it's clips of different songs. Also, there's almost zero emotion here. Some elements by themselves are okay, but this is not good. Nov 15, 2023

The worst I can say about this album is that a few songs are somewhat mediocre and the vocals could use more range. On the good side, the songs are mostly fun & punky, the riffs work well, and the drums get pretty interesting a bunch of times. I even like the short jazz track. Good work, Helmet. Nov 15, 2023

Music this homemade can be this good, and we all need to remind ourselves of that fact every so often. Melankoli proves it to us with this truly inspired bleak & icy soundscape, even colder than the cover photo. The synth & keyboards all have the perfect sound, and the composition masterfully works toward vast clearings of emotional release. Nov 15, 2023

Overall thoroughly good, though I didn't find much of it excellent. Maybe I'd like the songs even more with a different mix; I love the awesome fast riffing, but I can only hear that it's actually happening when the other instruments take a break. Still interested in hearing more from this band - great style. Nov 15, 2023

Another very good album. I think the progressive metal and atmospheric black metal descriptors apply to this one too. Another point is that Shylmagoghnar has a very unique sound. Anyway, top-tier composition and good production + recording. My pick of the day. Nov 14, 2023

Pretty good. For me, the space theme does not come through in the sound. There are some nice moments here & there in this ambient-focused atmospheric BM album. Nov 14, 2023

I did not know their early work was so Summoning-influenced. Track 2 and Track 6 the title track are the highlights for me. Good atmospheric black metal album. Nov 14, 2023

Some cools songs on this, including Forever from Abstract Void's 2023 album. I'll be checking out Lumnos. Nov 13, 2023

I always loved the Abstract Void sound, and finally B.M. has brought it to its true potential with these absolutely incredible songs. The outrun + pink + palm trees + grids motif now feels like a permanent symbol for synthwave, and albums like this put some real quality behind the symbol. Thank you Abstract Void for this album I've been listening to again & again. Nov 12, 2023

What a complete mess this album is. The parts of songs don't sound like they fit together. The vocals come in unnecessarily and just fill in space out of obligation. I can hear how some instrumentation is actually impressive and would be beautiful in isoaltion, but then it's all assembled in unnatural-feeling compositions. The bluesy intro to Don't Turn Your Back... is great, but then it doesn't continue into the song. Overall, meh. Nov 12, 2023

Similar style to Averses but, amazingly, he improved it even further. On this album of rich grinding guitar tones that wash over you, there's an emotional core that burns even hotter than the first album. While staying in atmospheric, the songs also feature elements of depressive and melancholic. Also, there's no unnecessarily long ambient part; the last quiet instrumental track is tight, to the point, and has interesting melodies & changes. Pure perfection from Déhà. Nov 12, 2023

In every part of this album I find the instruments doing something interesting, and the tone stays viscerally emotional. My ears tell me this is not played by a band recording their 1st album. Silly ears - I need to stop listening to them. Nov 12, 2023

A wonderful surprise, seeing as it's a big improvement on their 1st full-length. The vocal melodies and instrumentation range from good to great. Track 4, Her Torment, is captivating. I will keep listening to the whole album very regularly; it just feels so right. Nov 10, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
