That running time looks a little long, right? If this album lost a couple of songs and interludes, it would be as good as Thy Kingdom Cold. Dark Fables of the Night has a song or 2 with vocals that just continue for too long, and that feels really unnatural with the croaking technique he uses. There are tons of well-crafted evil songs, and they all match the Halloween release date. Nov 2, 2023

I'm just learning about this band and I'm thoroughly impressed. Excellently played. Also the blackened vocals are done perfectly and are just pure pleasure to listen to, whereas blackened vocals are usually just for fitting with the atmosphere for me. Another great new straight black metal release just a week after Asagraum. This autumn has been intense. Nov 2, 2023

This album has a bunch of excellent moments, but I wouldn't call any one track completely excellent. The firs song is in atmospheric/depressive territory, and the last song is in a folky Agalloch style. All in all, a good album like every other black metal album I listened to today. It's not my fault I have to give out all these high scores. Oct 31, 2023

To me, this sounds tight, well played, & well written. It's all melodic BM, except for the last song, which is blackened doom. I am very impressed with this band. Oct 31, 2023

It's all good, but Track 3, The Justice of Gnashing Teeth is so powerful & captivating, maybe one of the best songs this year. Oct 31, 2023

Very good and very very evil. Funny how those go together. I feel some Second Wave on this album too but the First Wave sound is what jumps out at me more.... and then there's the bonus track 'Hail Bathory', which is brilliant. Oct 31, 2023

Don't worry; Wata survived the cover photo. That's good news because Boris is an absolute legend of a band for making top-tier music like this album, meticulously, thoughtfully, & with audible inspiration. The wobbling & popping distortion in the beginning is followed by 'Shine on You Crazy Diamond' feeling stuff later on. In 5 minutes 40 minutes magically pass and then they wrap up like the pros they are. Fantastic. Oct 30, 2023

I loved the whole thing. Great death metal melodies and grindcore speed. The message of Anti-Homophobe was a pleasant surprise. These songs must really be in the hearts of the band members, because every moment sounds so golden. Oct 28, 2023

Good emotion, and the album has a very live feel to it. That cover art is a triumph as well - execution and inspiration are top tier, not similar in appearance to most deathgrind covers but it conveys the same type of feeling. Good underground band for all to take notice of. Oct 28, 2023

I like this one more than Heirs to Thievery. Track 10 stands out for me; it has a wonderful meditative quality while maintaining the grim heaviness. Very good all the way through. Oct 28, 2023

I did a Deathgrind Friday and this was the best of the day. The drumming is so good, so fast, and so perfect. I loved everything about the album, and I was surprised how some of the later songs turn rather alternative metal. Now I learn that Cattle Decapitation makes interesting choices with sub-genres. For a stoner metal Thursday I couldn't resist listening to an album from the masters. Those quivering notes - I cherish every millisecond. I really love this album. Oct 27, 2023

Wonderful energetic music that sounds really hard to play. The stoner side feels somewhat like Hendrix and Page, but the noise rock side feels more contemporary and draws a captivating contrast. Also, oh how that last song stays in my head after the album finishes. This album is both impressive and immensely pleasing. Oct 27, 2023

Fuzzy, rumbling, & swaggering. Stoner doom/sludge with interludes of country (and one of surf). A good way to start my morning. Oct 27, 2023

Very good atmospheric black metal, and the ambient stuff at the end was great too, which I don't usually think. An hour & 16 minutes felt short. Great melodies. Also, that cover art gives me a nice puzzled feeling. Oct 26, 2023

I enjoyed it more than their 2004 album. The horn section is particularly moving here. Very good and no weak parts. Oct 26, 2023

It has that homemade feel, but has some good moments. Based on this cover photo, it's not the type of atmosphere I was expecting, but still cool. Oct 26, 2023

The evil fury & darkness were so delectable. Truly astounding. The literary topic is handled so well, and it's a great way unite aficionados of different arts. This is a one-song masterpiece in a legendary discography. Oct 26, 2023

They put some variety in this album; there's some blackened doom in the beginning, some straight black metal, and some songs have some moments of heavy metal, then there's a lot of atmospheric. All done well with very good guitarwork. Oct 26, 2023

Respect to Slipknot; they devised their own version of nu metal without sounding like Koяn and it works very well. The drumming is mind-blowing and you can feel the enthusiasm from each member even though it's a studio album. Better than Iowa. A huge accomplishment. Oct 26, 2023

2 fiery and quite wonderful songs even if Otep's harsh vocal technique is not as full as it got later. The spoken word track in the middle is too long and the poetry is rambling and not well worded. The last 2 tracks are okay. All in all, it's just kinda good, but it's their 1st EP. It would be so much better without track 3. Oct 26, 2023

Better than their 2006 album. The first track is such a great truculent song for getting pumped up, but it has that unique Mushroomhead darkness contradicting it, like a point & counterpoint together. Track 4 sounds so much like Faith no More, I had to check and find out it's not a cover. No filler here; only great songs and good songs. Oct 26, 2023

I was trying to have a nu metal Tuesday, but this album is mostly alternative metal. Anyway, the quality is rather good. You can tell that it's the same guys who created L.D. 50. L.D. 50, though, is somewhat more interesting than this one but, besides that, they're pretty equal. I give both albums an 80, but consider L.D. 50 just a tiny bit better. Oct 26, 2023

It starts off with some okay nu metal, but mostly it's hard rock & heavy metal. Also, they add in some Alice in Chains influence, but they try to cram that sound into a half bar or so when it really needs more space to actually achieve the same effect. The lyrics are bad. Overall it's amateurish and immature but only a little bad. Oct 26, 2023

Ministry keeping it's awesome industrial sound while sounding a lot like Slayer in the riffing department. Very gratifying and fun too. Oct 24, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
