Singing, guitar sound, lyrics, melodies, & atmosphere are all top-tier here! It also shifts fully into thrash for a good portion of the album, which is also a positive point because it's full of power. Great album with a great title. Sep 24, 2023

Finally discovering why I've heard this band name before, and it's the Sadness guy going complete insane with a more erratic and sometimes evil sound. This might be hard for many metal fans to listen to, but there's a certain percent of us that will love this music with a passion. Sep 24, 2023

Impressive songwriting & musicianship. This time as I was actually enjoying it too. Maybe it's just hard for me to get into the right mood for their music. Yes, it's all about the breakdowns. Vildhjarta, featuring some of the same members, matches my personality much more. I am glad I gave this one a try, though. Sep 24, 2023

The members have been changing over the years, but their dependably brilliant black 'n' roll, punk, & metal have stayed at the same level. I find this one more exciting than Nattesferd, but just slightly. Also, almost as good as Splid. Instead of thinking more about why I rank those albums like that, I just want to listen to this again & again. Sep 24, 2023

The melancholy is so thick on this album. I'm glad I've finally looked into their earlier albums. This one is powerful & heavy like Aevum, and the quality is just as high. A very exciting record. Sep 22, 2023

Very good epic feel on this album. The cover art has a castle that looks kind of amateurish, but don't be fooled; these are well written songs played with huge amounts of passion. Sep 22, 2023

I liked this a lot, and I found the most doom-laden parts the best. Interesting that not even the doom on this album is all that slow; it's a lot of mid-tempo. Also, the melodies really stay with me. Sep 22, 2023

Definitely better than Gold & Grey, since I find more of these songs very satisfying. Great melodies played by total pros. Also, Baroness's discography is starting to get pretty beefy at this point. I've loved their music for a long time and have real respect for the past & present members. Sep 22, 2023

A prolific brutal death metal musician goes black metal, and you'll believe it when you hear the vocals. Good black metal with some symphonic intros. Sep 22, 2023

Kind of hard to choose between 85 and 90 on this one. All good, but it doesn't excite me as much as Plague, which is similar in style. The military rhythms do feel prominent on this album, giving the music a feeling of galactic empires exploring new planets. Also, I just love that album cover. Sep 22, 2023

The energy of the songs is equal to the coolness of the band & its image, which should be impossible but..... Motörhead. Sep 22, 2023

So many great moments condensed into 35 minutes. Melodically great, and Hate Forest's use of guttural vocals to induce trance-like feelings is so unique and effective. Brilliant music. Sep 20, 2023

Wow, what's up with these guys. In just 3 years they rose straight to the Awesome Tier. Sep 20, 2023

Great musicianship. So many slow songs on this one. Most of the best parts are the mid-tempo ones, but track 3 totally blew me away. Cool band, and the future looks extremely promising for these 2 guys. Sep 20, 2023

Melodic BM with an all-blue illustration on the cover - isn't that an omen for good music? Well, the rich and flowing music delivers what we want here. There's a great air of tragedy and melancholy. Also, this band's name is nothingness/空 in the Buddhist context. The 'Dark Age' theme matches the melody perfectly. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Sep 20, 2023

It's a very jarring sound that works well. Some people like it a lot more than me, but I definitely like it too. Sep 20, 2023

Short but sweet. What a good blackened thrash band. It's not as excellent as their 2022 album, but I need more Daeva! Sep 19, 2023

I like all tracks by both bands, but Úlfarr's tracks all have the same riff (which they admitted to, I think). If that doesn't bother you, it's a good split and a great way for Malfeitor to make himself known. Sep 19, 2023

Melodic BM with power metal influence? Wow, it works very well while feeling natural. Such a great brand spanking new band. I can't wait to hear their first full-length coming out this month. Sep 19, 2023

When this band came out, I thought they were much worse than this and much more cringeworthy. Pleasant surprise - this album has a lot of enjoyable moments, and nothing really negative that jumps out at me. Also, the singer can actually sing, and when he raps I don't find it embarrassing. A certain Limp band could have learned a lesson... back in 2001. Sep 19, 2023

Mostly average music on here. The clean vocals sometimes bother me, sounding like a whining metalcore teenager, but the harsh vocals are decent or better. Production sounds good. Track 6 really stands out - much more enjoyable than the rest. The Smashing Pumpkins cover doesn't compare to the original, but that's quite a challenge in the opinion of little old me. Sep 19, 2023

Track 2, Ostracized is pretty powerful, and the rest of the album is just so-so or kind of weak. Also, it's mostly covers, and the covers are mostly not so great. Rate Your Music people think this is the worst album ever, but they have their own potato-head obsessions. Anyway, this one is only for die-hard fans of Otep; for me it exists for that track 2. Overall a good album. I liked the thrashy riffs though some guitar parts felt more simple than they should be. The songwriting is mostly very good, but gets weaker in the middle of the album, especially with the songs with very short run-times. The vocals, of course, are great and really strengthen the gothic element. Sep 18, 2023

This album sweeps me away. There's a lot of what people like me want from atmospheric black metal, but there is some surprisingly doom-laden stuff in here too, so it's rather unique. Definitely one of my favorite bands. Sep 16, 2023

Quite beautiful, and there are some fun 80s-feeling parts. By the way, what the heck is happening on that album cover? Sep 16, 2023

I loved this one so much, and this great album helps tip 2023 toward being a huge year for metal. I'm wondering if TesseracT gets overlooked by people looking for extremely heavy progressive metal. Well, this music has what they're looking for. Sep 16, 2023

Officially, I declare Fog of War one of those bands that need to produce more albums. They are so excellent and so many years have passed. Also, A+ on making this one distinct from the previous. I loved all the music, and I loved all the attitude. Sep 16, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
