Pretty solid album, but the lyrics and singing are a weak spot. Something about groove metal makes it easy to say awkward things while being too emphatic about it. The guitar playing and guitar sound are great, and the whole thing does feel very dramatic. Sep 16, 2023

It has some good moments, but nothing as good as their later material. Very obvious influence from Otep on this album, but the results got better when their experience was their main source. Sep 16, 2023

A good listen. Track 2 is great and so is the famous track 4, so I can see why they were singles. A lot of the other songs have weak verses and excellent choruses. Owners of the Japanese edition were lucky; I always loved that Jurassitol song. Sep 16, 2023

With all these Tolkien references, of course this sounds like Summoning. It is all right and it does convey some nostalgia, but it doesn't convey the darkness and evil like Summoning does while being even more beautiful. This should be a goal for the next album. Sep 16, 2023

Very nice kvlt sound that weaves in some atmospheric and some post. Now I feel silly that it's been so many years since I last listened to this band. Sep 16, 2023

It gets better as the album progresses. Be warned; the vocals are slamming pig squeals. However, I got into the groove anyway. The compositions, especially for the percussion, is very good. I salute this one-man-band. Sep 16, 2023

Good succinct thrash songs. It doesn't have much variety, but the power and quality keep that from being a detracting factor. The bonus disc with guest vocalists is good too, but I recommend not listening to both in a row. The 3rd best thrash of this year, behind only Raider and King Gizzard. What a thrash year! This was a fun experience. I found one of my favorite atmospheric BM artists. I heard this album and thought it's his best work. After listening a bunch of times I think, "Wait, is there any black metal on this one?" I had to listen again to realize that there's no blackened element, just his original unique sound. That was as great a journey as the exhilarating songs on this album. Sep 13, 2023

Now I can hear why I started listening to Nebula Orionis so much in 2019. Track 2 is so powerful - what a great example of Atmospheric BM. The rest is good too. Sep 13, 2023

It's all right if you like the genre as much as I do. This is very Lustre, which you might guess by the album cover and year of release. I'm really glad he started getting his own ideas soon after this. Sep 13, 2023

Even a little more variety in his discography now. Mostly post-black metal here. A lot of cold and depressive feelings, but track 4 is upbeat. Solid album. Sep 13, 2023

The songs from the The Aftermath EP are great. The other songs are good. Definitely skip the 20 minutes of silence; it's kind of annoying. Sep 12, 2023

Katatonia is a funny band. They try their best to sell out and be phony, but they create this evocative and sincere album instead. Some bands are so much more capable of failing; I guess Katatonia never figured out how to. Sep 12, 2023

Great guitar sound as always. Also, like with Hellscape, my mind goes right to exercise routines. If you have a routine, you'll love to have this playing. For this EP, the compositions aren't as inspiring as his other recent work - but still enjoyable. Sep 12, 2023

Good songs from start to finish, with a segment here & there that was kinda' awkward or felt a little annoying. Maybe the critiquing phase didn't quite happen when they wrote the songs. Nothing so negative though. A good listen for black metal fans. Thank you BM veterans. Sep 12, 2023

I love how I was just feeling the general mood for so many minutes, and then I realized I was in the middle of hearing the most nightmarish screams imaginable. These are 2 great musicians that enrich the underground so much through their own projects, and through top-tier collaborations like this album. My pick of the week for sure. Sep 10, 2023

Very good swooning melodies. I'm thinking it's their 2nd best so far. Concise & replayable. On that album cover, I like the execution a little but totally love the concept. Sep 10, 2023

The section of clean vocals is rather annoying for me, but when it breaks into full-on black metal it's well played. I'll give this a slightly good rating, but I won't be surprised if they release something I like much much more. Sep 10, 2023

Good quality on the songwriting throughout. The heartfelt rather soft songs are what usually become the embarrassing commercial tracks for a rock or metal band, but there's nothing negative the way that Pia makes them. I guess it's a rare skill. Sep 10, 2023

No offense to Andrea, but I was wishing for more vocals from Cristina so she could achieve more dramatic resolutions in the vocal melodies. I also took offense at some tacked-on orchestral elements. Even considering those complaints though, it's still pleasant music overall from good ol' Lacuna Coil. Sep 10, 2023

Great atmosphere and the melodies convey a lot of emotion. Though I wouldn't call it atmospheric BM, it does show clear influence from Drudkh. I'm wondering if their previous albums are this good; if they're even close I'll be elated to listen. Sep 10, 2023

The combination of that album art, that title, and that beastly old school death metal sound all work together so well. I can see why death metal has so many fans, especially when listening to a band like these guys. Sep 10, 2023

Fun music that is disgustingly heavy as you might guess. Yes the cover makes me think of Garbage Pail Kids. Also, the mascot's name is Drippy. Sep 10, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
