Great songwriting and it's very well played. For me, the vocals are just a little below the excellent level of the instruments. Similar to Swedish melodic black metal bands. The only negative thing about listening to this is learning that they don't have many other releases. Jan 24, 2023

This one brings the ruckus! I got what I wanted: it's busy, furious, cosmic, & full of surprises. Also it has a real sci-fi feel as the album cover promises. The electronic element brings in definitely synthwave, darkwave, ambient, and maybe trance and techno. Similar to The Algorithim. I'm so happy to find this artist. Jan 23, 2023

There are a few amazing songs on this album. Most of the rest of the tracks lack the urgency and raw power that most Soundgarden songs tend to have, but even the weakest songs on Down on the Upside are very very interesting and deserve credit. There's a lot of inventive singing and melody-writing and some really thick atmosphere too. Jan 22, 2023

A+ for style, and the production is good too. I hope his other releases just have more passion and éclat. Other than that, he's basically on his way to some very good music like the obvious influences, probably Enisum and Veldes or very similar artists.. Jan 22, 2023

I thoroughly enjoyed this death metal album. Also, I wish all the best to the band in case life is difficult for a death metal band living in Pakistan. Jan 21, 2023

Gigantic melancholy blasted my whole body throughout this album. So far, I find the firs track to be the most powerful, but the whole record is just so well written. If I change this score, it's going up to a perfect 100 - this album is that close to the border. My pick of the week. Jan 21, 2023

I was almost giddy that this was released yesterday, and it totally lived up to my high expectations. The impressive drumming is what pushes me to give it such a high score. After all these years, it's still the same smooth shiny vocals and top-tier songwriting. Such great gothic metal from the masters. Jan 21, 2023

How did this release slip by me last year? This is a true group of masters and this album is every bit as powerful and impressive as their other masterpieces. Jan 21, 2023

I used to listen to this album so frequently. What a great band. Sometimes I skip Surprise! You're Dead!, but this recording is a massive achievement in modern music. Jan 21, 2023

Impressive production, but then again this is extremely extremely commercial music. Endless Rain is way too corny for me, but most songs are really enjoyable, and clearly these guys take their execution very seriously. Jan 21, 2023

Thank Cthulhu for album covers! I listened to this when it was brand new and was super glad to rediscover it. Great ominous & apocalyptic feelings are infused into this nice blend of black metal & death metal. Jan 21, 2023

Obscure becomes a good word when you find surprising gems like this one. Basically black metal here, but definite power metal influences show up now & again. I hope these guys are in current bands, because this blast from the past shows some real inspiration. Jan 21, 2023

I listened to the remastered version, which is still super super lo-fi. Actually, the first couple of tracks had me unsure because of all the tinny sound, but I'm glad I kept listening; there are some great melodies and composition on this album. A good listen for fans of the underground. Jan 21, 2023

One of my favorite discoveries of the past week, and it was an excellent week of top-tier albums for me. This is an astoundingly dank album. Jan 21, 2023

It's really a shame that the vocals really change this good album into a bad one. There're way too many vocals, and they mostly drone on and on in the same tone. The instrumentation is better than their earlier albums, and I really appreciate how many sub-genres they go through, even a black metal song. I have mixed feelings on this one, and overall it's negative. Jan 21, 2023

Really decent blackened thrash with the best aspects of both genres. Jan 21, 2023

I loved this one. Energy and adrenaline just jumped right out of the speakers. Definitely trying more from Pia soon! Jan 21, 2023

Dig really blew me away when it was released, and I've always seen this listed everywhere as a top album from the early 2000s and nu metal. After hearing all the songs, it's not quite as good as it's legendary reputation; it's a mix of good & mediocre songs. Besides Dig, I find the better songs are mostly not the heaviest ones. Bluesy, stoned, & swaggering. Good singing and the guitarwork makes me melt. Jan 21, 2023

Very lo-fi, and it has a very primitive feel, I think intentionally. It's not for everyone, but it totally sets the mood. Also, the riffing is overflowing with evil. Jan 21, 2023

The whole album is good, but that 2nd to last song is pure gold. I really want to go walking to it as soon as humanly possible. Jan 18, 2023

Heavy, energetic, and it has such perfect instrumentation. It's like having fun and enjoying the view while right in the middle of a dark & dangerous adventure. My pick for today. Jan 18, 2023

Huge epic work with many cathartic and sombre moments. I like the first track the best. On a serious note, I send positive energy to Chort, considering he composed this to address the death of his child. Jan 18, 2023

2022 was an amazing year for black metal from Poland, and these guys are part of that success. This album gets into truly deep melancholy, and they do that with rather fast and mid-tempo songs, which might surprise you. Tons of passion and a great sound. I hope they do this well with a full-length release, and very very soon please? Jan 18, 2023

The first time I've listened to a whole album by Neurosis, and I'm very glad I did. I look forward to hearing more from the discography from this early band of a great genre. Jan 18, 2023

Wow, this band is not your typical blackened death metal band. While I like their 2022 more than this, Lurkers in the Capsule of Skull is still extremely cinematic in feeling. Also it has that mind-warping dissonance. Even people who love heavy music might be surprised at how heavy this album is. Does that make you want to listen? Jan 18, 2023

Nicely strange feelings are created through the medium of oldschool death metal here. The vocals are very guttural and hard to distinguish, which I don't like much, but on this album they're kinda quiet and in the background, so I like it, surprisingly. They're definitely a good band, but I'll recommend it only if you really like death metal, otherwise I can't guarantee it'll work for you. Jan 18, 2023

A tribute to Lustre as this guy admits on his Bandcamp page. I feel the music is a little bit better than average, so I score it at 75. Worth a listen 1 time, and I'll look forward to this guy honing his songwriting skills to catch up with his hero. Jan 18, 2023

So this is the same singer as Dark Funeral. Well, I have to listen to more from each band. These songs are really catchy and energizing. Good variety in composition, vocals are done with great tact, the recording is very good, and a strong mood soaks into the soundscape. I find the weakest song to be the Bathory cover, which is surprising, but the weakest point is still pretty good. Recommended. Jan 18, 2023

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
