At some points I was really into this album, and the rest is good too. It's in the depressive style, but it sounds like fighting your way through depression and appreciating both the positive & the negative....... to me anwyway. Dec 9, 2022

One of the many many high-quality atmospheric BM albums from 2021. This one feels like floating in warmth and transforming, but don't misunderstand; it's also nice and heavy and aggressive. Dec 9, 2022

Good album from Woods of Desolation. I hear some influence from Ethereal Shroud. Dec 9, 2022

By my ear, this is funeral doom, and it's a little blackened and has a few death doom moments. Also, it has warm & loving feelings that doom metal almost never has. These guys can think for themselves and they don't let genres and convention box them in. Definitely recommended. Dec 8, 2022

Great & solid with the usual atmospheric sub-genre elements. However, the drumming gets rather original and very interesting at times. They claim this was improvised on one night. Amazing & romantic to hear that. Dec 8, 2022

High level of musicianship here, and I really liked how heavy metal pops up here & there for variety. Dec 8, 2022

I already loved Elffor's music, but he created an album that's even better than I expected. This one has a unique sound in his discography, in that it has this distant howling bass-oriented reverberation that the music filters through. The effect is very striking, and the compositions are immensely emotional and inspired. One of the best albums of 2022. Dec 8, 2022

Very melancholic debut that is also heavy & dark. Dec 8, 2022

The last track has a nice run time. There are some very floaty ambient parts to this, but it's balanced well with rock & metal, so I it didn't feel like it was dragging on, which is a highly notable accomplishment considering the scale of this instrumental album. Dec 8, 2022

I thoroughly enjoyed this album. The singer has quite a voice, but I wish he would alternate between tones more often for variety. Dec 8, 2022

This is quite a great EP. Really a storm of blackness. Also, don't get me started about that immensely powerful cover art. Dec 8, 2022

I don't find the same level of vitality that Sevas Tra has, but I commend Otep for confronting real-life problems through their music. UR A WMN NOW had me reflecting for the whole day; it's really haunting. Dec 8, 2022

All good, but I feel it doesn't get very good until the middle of the album. Dec 8, 2022

Imagine some black metal wizard in corpse paint who was wandering the chilly rocky wilderness for years and he's all scratched up and bleeding and frostbitten and starving and his clothes are ripped and frayed. Now he just entered some village where hobbits surround him, healing, feeding, hugging and consoling him. This album sounds like that. If you don't believe me just hit play. Dec 8, 2022

Pain and aggression contrast magnificently with the guitarwork so melancholic it pierces through my chest. Black metal has been great to me today. This melodic album is so good I'll definitely try their earlier work whether or not Pagan means it differs stylistically. Dec 6, 2022

Washing all over your face with gritty distortion. This is a mean & nasty sound with mid tempos from isolated cold environments. Also, no CD yet, not Vinyl yet, prioritizing Cassette! I salute you. Dec 6, 2022

Traditional heavy metal here. All is good and production & recording style are in very good taste. Also, the last song is brilliant. Thank you Blayne from Banger TV for the recommendation. Dec 5, 2022

Quality as good as Omens but I like the style on this even more. The cover art really speaks to me philosophically too. Dec 5, 2022

Awesome progressive, more stoner-feeling than the first album. Also, they make better use of Tool influence in the rhythms. A little bit better than their 1st album and very close to a perfect score for me. The only real complaint is that I want a longer album. Oh well, rushing great music might backfire.... Dec 4, 2022

Definitely not an average album. It has tons of boring & embarrassing songs with mediocre singing, especially the slow ones. However, Stupid Girl and a few other songs are really great and should be on anyone's 2000's alternative mix. It's funny how with those songs, the singer and the musicians suddenly find much more skill & inspiration. Material makes a huge difference. Dec 3, 2022

The Album Which Transforms Black Metal. I got some spooky & disturbing atmosphere, and I got some heavy chilling heaviness, all like I expected. Also, it got to some serene parts that were excellent for just chilling out. A great album very early in their illustrious career. Dec 3, 2022

In just 5 years, these guys made an awesome discography. I think I like this one as much as Esoteric Malacology. It gets so deep into a great variety of moods. Also, they have my respect for developing their theme, showing they have some imagination. Dec 3, 2022

The 2nd amazing black metal release from Poland in just a few days' time. This is so awesomely melodic with more tremolo picking than could fit in that giant castle back there. Dec 3, 2022
Cosmicism 80/100
I really liked their style on this album, but in the end I just didn't feel a very big impact. For me, good - not great. Dec 3, 2022

For me, the instrumentation was nice and busy, energetic but not as grating as metalcore usually is. Dec 3, 2022
Cosmicism 90/100
Great surprise for me; I didn't know this album would be anywhere near this good. I was afraid it would be all about the singer being the star, but everyone in the band seems to serve the groove, and this results in an album with no duds. Also, major adult-themed lyrics show up here - just a fair warning. Dec 3, 2022

Nov 4, 2024

Their most representative album of the eighties, full of innovation and class, with forceful themes and a benchmark in style for the hard rock genre, in fact it is their best-selling work to date! My personal precise rating is (94/100) Faves: Criyng In The Rain and Don´t Turn Away! Oct 30, 2024

완벽하다. 지금와서 painkiller 정도의 힘을 기대하는 것은 무리지만 관록과 경험으로 영그러진 놀라운 앨범을 냈다. 엔지니어링도 크게 한몫했다. Oct 31, 2024
