띠리릭 띠리릭~~Inquisition 입니다. 우주블랙이라고 불리는 이번 앨범에서 무언가에 홀리게 만드는 휘항찬란한? 구성하며 예상을 빗나가게 만드는 변칙스런 맛에 듣는 앨범입니다. 이 앨범으로 또다른 팬층을 확보하게 됨과 동시에 국내외 반응도 상당히 좋았던 앨범입니다. 보컬은 낮고 건조함을 가득안은채 세계로 뻗어가는 펼쳐놓고 어중간한 마무리보다 기타파트가 확실히 키를 잡아가면서 능동적인 레코딩도 한 몫 했겠지만, 블랙메틀의 시선을 자신만의 또다른 시선으로 만들었다는데 더 큰 의미를 두는 편입니다.

Inquisition 첨에 접했을땐 농수산물 시장 경매진행 하는 아저씨 같은 보컬땜에 너무 싫었는데, 계속 듣다보니 중되되서 이제는 Cosmic invocation rites 같은 곡이 나올때면 클럽에 온 느낌으로 둠칫거리는 나를 발견하고 쪽팔려서 죽을것 같아요.

독특하고 신비로운 멜로디에 기괴한 색채의 리프와 보컬, 깔끔한 드러밍 이 모든 걸 담은 앨범 커버 모두 완벽한 명반

이것도 첨엔 보컬때문에 집중이안되서 뭐이런게 다있지라고 생각했는데 나중에 들어보니 오히려 그 보컬이 앨범에 몰입하게 만들어주었다

혹자는 보컬이 개구리같다고 할 수도 있겠다만, 오히려 이러한 외계인스러운 보컬이 이 앨범의 컨셉을 부각시키는 듯하다. 흔치않은 '우주'라는 소재를 주제로 잡았으며, 또한 그러한 주제를 여러모로 잘 살린 앳모스피릭 블랙메탈 명반.

1집부터 보여주었던 이들만의 원초적인 주제의 사악함, 무심한 보컬은 그대로지만 본작에서는 더욱 환상적인 음악으로 전작들과 감히 비교도 안되는 역량을 보여주고있다. 이들의 대표곡인 Desolate Funeral Chant는 무게감있는 전개로 더욱 진중한 느낌을 자아내고 무자비하게 밀어붙이는 리프가 압권인 8번곡, 마지막곡의 장중한 마무리 또한 환상적이다.

전 작에서 슬슬 무언가 변환점이 필요하다고 적었는데 밴드도 그렇게 느꼈나보다. 이들의 사운드에선 좀처럼 찾아보기 힘든 속도감이 앨범 전반적으로 유지된다. 그리고 기괴함과 광활함이 몇 배나 더해졌다.

Alien Black Metal..이라고 말장난치는 이유는 아무래도 이 앨범이 내뿜는 다른 행성의 외계 문명을 연상케하는 분위기에다 외계인스러운 보컬 때문이리라.
