This is an interesting transition from their USPM sound. The Politics of Ecstasy is by far the heaviest album the crew had released at that point, adopting a much chuggier and more rhythmic approach. It’s kind of hard to classify this; while the technicality on show is close to Progressive Metal, it also has a very Tech-Thrash-Lite feel to it. Despite being labeled as Thrash, it sounds quite different from what most people associate with the genre, almost playing like speedy Groove Metal instead, with rhythmic riffs and mid-tempo double bass playing in semi-complex polyrhythms.
Admittedly, I feel mixed about this new direction, as rhythmic riffing usually doesn’t sit well with me as opposed to more melodic Heavy Metal or sharp, twisting conventional Thrash, but the music is still very high quality. The album also has a few great surprises as well; Passenger is a Doom Metal song with a monstrous main riff and great vocals, and 42147 has more conventional Thrashing and near-Melodeath riffing that adds some much needed energy and aggression to the flow of the album.
Overall I can’t say I prefer this to their older Thrash influenced USPM sound, but it’s still great stuff, surprisingly heavy for the band and carrying a decent amount of variety in the approaches to songwriting.

Progressive Rock 만큼 정의하기 복잡한 장르가 또 있을까. 프로그레시브 록을 정의하는 기준은 어떠한 장르보다도 다양하다. 그 특징을 하나하나 살펴보면 Classic, Jazz 등의 타장르 요소, 서사성 짙은 대곡, 컨셉, 복잡한 박자와 리듬을 강조하는 테크니컬한 연주, 독특한 실험적 요소 등이 있다. 70년대에 만개했던 프로그레시브 록은 Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis 등의 명품 밴드들에 연주되면서 장르의 범위는 비약적으로 확장되었다. 80년대에 접어들면서 프로그레시브 록 자체는 비록 침체기에 접어들게 되지만, Heavy Metal 밴드들이 이를 수용하면서 오히려 음악적 폭은 더욱더 넓어지는 경향을 보이게 된다. 헤비 메탈 밴드들에 묻어가던 프로그레시브 록이 전환점을 맞이하게 된 것은 90년대에 접어들어서이다. Dream Theater가 기념비적인 명박 Images and Words를 발표하면서 프로그레시브 록은 이제 프로그레시브 메탈이라는 하나의 장르로 완연하게 정립되었다. Nevermore - kapela, ktorá vznikla po rozpade inej kvalitnej skupiny: Sanctuary. Druhé album " The Politics of Ecstasy" je jedným z najlepších albumov nie len v roku 1996, ale aj celkovom metalovej scény. Zvuk albumu je krásne tvrdý, pritom čitateľný pre všetky nástroje. Štýl na albume je prevažne Power Metal, avšak piesne čerpajú aj z Thrashu, Prog. a Groove Metalu, dokonca občas idú až do doom -u (pieseň Passenger). Ani jedna pieseň nenudí, sú plné zmien tempa, vyhrávok a riffov - Jeff Loomis nie nadarmo patrí medzi uznávaných gitaristov, druhého gitaristu Pat O'Brien si neskôr stiahla iná známa metalová skupina. Nerobia im problém ani inštrumentálne veci, ako kvalitná "Precognition". Warrel Dane na albume predvádza svoje najlepšie spevácke umenie, aj keď skôr využíva svoj stredný melodický spev a nejde za každú cenu do výšok. Jim Sheppard - bassgitara má veľký podiel na hutnosti a kvalite hudby. A potom je tu Van Williams - výborný technický a pestrý pán bubeník. Proste výborné technické a tvrdé album.

좋다. 전작의 분위기를 확연히 정립하고 싱글로 내놔도 좋을 곡들이 엿보인다. 하지만 정리가 안되고 어지러운 느낌이다. 분위기를 끌어올리기 위한 장치에 빠져버려 직선성이 깎였다. 전작에서 한걸음 더 나아간 좋은 음반.
