아직 기타와 드럼, 보컬에서 Therion의 원래 뿌리였던 데스메탈의 공격성을 느낄 수 있다. 하지만 이 흔적과 새로 들어와 자리잡는 심포닉, 신디사이저가 합쳐지면서 묘한 박진감과 오리엔트적 분위기를 만들어 내는데 마치 "페르시아의 왕자"같은 고전 액션 어드벤처 게임의 배경음악 같이 들린다. 뒤에 나오는 작품들만큼 세련되고 정제되진 않았지만 특유의 분위기가 아주 마음에 드는, 명반으로 꼽히기에 아깝지 않은 앨범! 91.5점

Therion finally found the sound they’ve been chasing for a long time and ended up with a full on Symphonic Metal classic with tons of Gothic, Progressive and extreme Metal influence. Tons of guests here, it’s lush with different instruments, vocal styles, and overall styles.
As one of the earliest examples of the genre, Therion were pioneering a sound that would later be super influential in the strain of Symphonic Death Metal bands and the darker, more Gothic tinged side of the genre as well. Most of the guitars are rhythmic in nature, with lead melodies usually being carried by vocals, string instruments and keys. It’s a wildly fun album that just has so much going for it.
Weak points include the aforementioned guitars (about 2 memorable guitar leads here) and an over relying on operatic vocals, which can get grating pretty quickly. Other than that though, it’s a great quality album way ahead of its time.
P.S. The Metal portion of Siren of the Woods is phenomenal, but the song is scalped by having a four minute intro.

Therion은 유로피언 메탈 밴드들 중에서도 가장 오리지널리티가 짙은 밴드 중 하나이다. 초기에만 해도 밴드는 그리 주목 받는 그룹은 아니었다. 하지만, 네 번째 앨범인 Lepaca Kliffoth에서 심포닉한 사운드를 본격적으로 덧입히기 시작하면서 Therion은 오리지널리티를 형성하기 시작했고, 마침내 다섯 번째 앨범인 Theli에서 그들 고유의 확고부동한 아이덴티티를 확보하였다. 이 앨범에서 밴드는 클래식의 우아한 사운드를 전면에 도입하였다. 여전히 초창기 시절의 데스 메탈의 날 것을 연상시키는 사운드는 미약하게나마 남아있지만, 그것이 밴드의 음악에서 자취를 감출 것은 명약관화했다. 클래식의 고풍스러운 사운드와 Therion이 초기 데스 메탈을 추종했던 시절과는 부정교합이 있기 때문에 굵고 거친 면모는 포기되어져야만 했다. 이러한 부분은 그리 아쉽다는 생각은 들지 않는다. 이는 Therion의 초기작들이 남겨준 인상이 옅은 탓이다. therion이란 그룹에 빠지게 만든 이들의 최고의 원픽곡 to mega therion 다른 데리온 명곡들이 많지만 이 곡에 미치치는 못합니다.

Therion을 처음 접한 앨범.... 곡, 연주 너무나도 좋았고 이 밴드가 많은 앨범을 발매 했었단 사실에 더 좋았다.... 다른 앨범도 계속 찾아보게 만드는 밴드이다....

아직 vovin이나 secret of the runes 만큼 세련되거나 심포닉한면이 완벽하지는 않다고 생각하지만 오히려 그런 투박한 면이 더욱 매력적이다. 첨 들었던 therion 앨범이라 더 정이간다! to mega therion/ the siren of the woods 개인적 추천곡!

신작 앨범에 실망하여 아쉽고 부족한 부분을 예전 앨범을 다시 들으며 메꾸는 중.. 거칠지만 상당히 개성있는 앨범. 9번 곡은 백미.
